That's no so bad. If is shares some components with the Explorer that doesn't make it a complete explorer. It did say that it will have it's own unique suspension. Hopefully that means NOT going to any form of independant suspension. If they stay away from that, the Disco may still remain a viable off-road vehicle.

The Disco 3 will be based on the Explorer/Mountaineer platform in 2004/2005, but it will be strengthened and will have more cross-members. The Disco will have a newly developed 5.0L V8 designed by Jaguar/Astin Martin. The axles(70% chance) will be solid axles with "space saver" pumpkins. They are developed by Dana. The car would have at least 11 inches on ground clearance. Also Land Rover will combine a revised version of their 4-ETS traction control system with 3 fully locking differentials(Dana developed to be both a LSD and a locker)The car will still keep the signature Discovery looks but will also have a new "up-to-date" look to it with more rounded edges. That sounds like bunk! 3 fully locking diffs? Are you kidding me!
If it is true, this sounds like a great LR, especially with Jeep coming out with a new Wrangler with Factory Lockers, Dana 44, 31" tires, etc.
Going to more common parts would mean cheaper routes for off-road upgrades.
