and what a difference. I'm sure that in England they love all those clear windows to let as much light in as possible. But out here in the Western Desert, the sun can be a bit harsh on the poor leather/passengers.

Do you have rear air? I have a 95 with rear air. One of my alpine windows has a clear plexiglass window on the interior of the car, then behind that is the exterior glass. The other side simply has glass, just like every other piece of glass in the car. Can I take out the plexiglass piece, or is that part of the duct system for the rear air? Also, what did you do to alleviate the sun coming through the sunroof's? These damn screens are a pain and damn near useless. I wish that I had a solid shade like most other glass sunroofs. I know that with the roof design there is no place to slide a shade, but has anyone come up with an idea?

self-adhesive velcro all around sunroof and slap on a black cloth cut to size...

Brett,
My 95 Discovery has exactly same spec you have. My local tinting guys did window tint to my vehicle about 2 and half years ago and I'm quite satisfied with the result.
They basically used 3 different tones.
Since my dual sunroofs are where most sun lights coming through, they put the darkest film.
Next darkest film went to every windows except driver side and passenger side windows. They put same film to clear plexiglass window on the interior of the car and other alpine window.
Since it's illegal to tint driver side and passenger side windows, I was kind of hesitant to put any film there but accept those guy's advise to put light tone film.
The difference is like heaven and earth! I need less air conditioning in my vehicle and I guess it's also good to my leather interiors.
The only problem was the film was not sticking very well to the clear plexiglass window on the interior of the car because of its material and round shape.
But it's worth more than $200 investment during 2 and half years pleasant driving!

I have an aftermarket "Hollandia" roof and it does have a solid shade, so it can defintely be fitted, there is no problem with the roof design. The shade is vented as well, so you can have the roof open and get the air circulation with out getting blasted by the sun. Im sure someone can come up with something to fit yours as well.

Sorry, what is a "Hollandia" roof? Only asking because I recently bought an update kit from Land Rover for my '97 Disco sunroof sliders that didn't fit and was wondering if I have some kind of aftermarket set up. Looks clean enough and seems like original to me, but it's my first Rover.

you very well could, Hollandia is an aftermarket sunroof manufacturer. If you have only one roof, its definitely aftermarket, if it closes automaticly when you turn off the Disco, its an aftermarket, if it has a solid sunshade its aftermarket, if it doesnt leak, its absolutely aftermarket...:)

I got my truck tinted with limo tint. It keeps it cool inside, even though I left the alpines and sunroofs untinted to give more of that airy feeling that I love about the Disco. I like it alot better than our suburban with the same tint... its too dark in there.

How does all this tinting effect things off road, especially in shady areas or on the trail at night? Anything but tinting the sunroofs and maybe alpine windows would seem to have negative effects that could be very costly for lowered visibility.

I'm goin with limo tint, too - out here in AZ it really helps - going to top 107 degrees tomorrow. Nightime visibility sucks, though - I usually drop driver/passenger windows anyway while offroading at night. I'd hate to have to reverse offroad at night with limo tint, though. Good reason to have rear and side floods on roof.

yeah, reversing at night really sucks, and I drop the windows at night too, I am going to put some rear floods on soon, we have them on our suburban and it really helps.

You need floods that are brighter than the sun! Unfortunately on the Disco you can't open the rear door to see whre you're goin in reverse in a tough spot - used to do that all the time with my cherokee...I wonder if that's why the rear tailgate never quite fit right when closed?.......
