i've got a 95 disco and decided to go through a creek today. Well, I went through some deep water, but didn't stall :) But did take on a lot of water in the back. Anyone have a good way around this.........besides staying out of the water.

Add duct tape over the breaks in the seal front and rear

Right, add duct tape. Use black duct tape and you will hardly notice it. I replace the tape about once a year. Use several layers to provide a good seal. Also, roll up your windows and turn off your A/C. Turn off the recirculate air switch and turn on your fan on high. Supposedly this will create a positive pressure in the cabin and help slow the water egress even more.

Be sure to pull up the carpet and the carpet pad right away, otherwise you will have one nasty smelling Disco in a real hurry. Remove rear seats and the black trim strips at the bottoms of the doors. Remove the side bins in the rear (they bow out in the middle and just slip out). The rear carpet comes right out. Up front, it is a little more complicated. Email me if you have questions.

Thanks,
Mike

Aluminium HA.

Yes you do have to worry about rust. The entire floor and bulkhead is steel as well as the inner fender area.

Thanks Ron exactly what on the disco is aluminum

The outer door skins, all the outer fenders, Not sure about the hood (I forget) are all aluminium but the roof is steel. There is an inner frame work and floor assembly that is made of steel. Rangies are built the same way. You can have a truck that looks perfect from the outside but the floors and sills will be all rusted and even the frame can be compromised. The good news is that it is easy to patch the problem areas as it is structural and not cosmetic so as long it is done right it can look like crap. If you are careful and actually deal with potential problems you will be fine long term but thinking its aluminium it won't rust will turn your truck into junk in the long run.

Cheers
Ron

Look into Yack racks that can use the existing cross bars like the Lock Jaw or something. But, putting a bike way up there is too high for me. Why not consider something that mounts on the hitch or tire.

I'd recommend that you start taking it apart right away. That smell can get so bad that you cannot drive it! Also, rust becomes a problem pretty quickly (24 hours). You can remove the rear seats and padding, etc. in about 30 minutes. The front will take a little longer. Do it over two nights if you have to.

LoL,
Mike

Don't think about strapping your bike to the top of the stock Disco racks......well unless you are riding a K-Mart special. Those racks are not really intended to haul bikes or much of anything worth much of value or weight. Get some Thule gutter mounted towers and some load bars. Then of course get some bike attachments......the rack will come in handy for more than just hauling bikes around anyhow.
