It just keeps going and going....

For parts 1 and 2 see my other 2 posts.

Last night took off the front drive shaft and went for a spin - 100% improvement I had my great running Disco back - until I was about 5 minutes down the road then I heard a familiar (since two days ago) tok, tok, tok..... So the front drive shaft was causing the vibrations but now it seems like the rear is having issues too. There doesn't seem to be any play in the rear and it doesn't look like the angle is too extreme. Also it doesn't start doing the tok tok right away just after about 5 minutes. I let the car sit for a couple of hours and did the same test with the same result. I checked to make sure the shocks were tight just in case but am not sure where to look next. Do you think puting it up on 4 jack stands and running it until I here the sound would be more productive than putting the front drive shaft back in (thus adding slight vibration back into the equation) and taking out the rear would be a better test? Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get my until now perfectly running Disco back to health. Thanks.

Do you have a rotoflex? It would look like a rubber disc between the rear dif (axle) and the drive shaft. Look and see if it is cracked. Also look at all the bushings in the shocks, radius arms, trailing arms etc. Are you sure it is suspension? I can't see why there would be a 5 min delay with either of these bushings/rotoflex.

This is a long shot, but due to my Rotoflex nightmare before switching to u-joint have a thought - if angle is extreme enough, stress on rubber Rotoflex is very high. Stress/angle create heat which temporarily weakens/softens rubber. Rubber stuff is my living so I know a few things, but the argument falls down when we're only talking a 2" lift. Regardless, if you do the the Rotoflex - get rid of it now or check it very often and carry a spare.

Checked under the truck at lunch and no rotoflex on the rear drive shaft. Is this normal. Looks like I'll be spending the weekend looking for other causes of my new noise. Any other areas to look at would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok,
I have never seen a rear driveshaft on a disco that cause vibs with a 2in lift other than rotoflex ones, so I think that is not the problem. First, I assume you took your wheels off to do the lift. Check the lug nuts and see if they are tight (95lb/ft). Look also at the shock bushings to see if they are on right. If not bushings I think it is not lift related or I am stumped. I would have to hear the sound to see other possibilities. tok tok, exhaust leak maybe, I dunno. This is a tough one, but I am sure it will get figured out.

No rotoflex is a good thing. Means you have normal U joint rear drive shaft which is more robust.
