I wanted to thank everyone at discoweb for hosting a great site. It gave me a chance to have a great offroad adventure with people I met on Sunday at Badlands.
Thanks to Tom Pearson for organizing the outing and showing me how to offroad my new 2001 DISC 2.
Hope we all meet up again and offroad soon.

Hey Al,

Thanks for coming out. I wish I could take all the organizing credit, but Ali and Raul of the Chicago Land Rover club had a hand in it as well. Glad you had fun. Now, all we need to do is get you to cut off that air dam and throw on some springs... :)

Al, did you do any mods for off-roading or did you keep it stock?

Tom and Raul are water hounds! If anyone is in need for snorkel it's these guys. Glad I didn't go through all that water stuff but it sure was fun hitching a ride in Tom's and Scott's rigs. It was also a great way to check out the RT stuff. I'll be ordering the 2" firm springs like Scott's '97. My '91RR "Aggie" appreciated the hospitality by the Discos!

Greg,
The only mod I did to my disco is the vent shades for the windows.
The truck is very capable of offroad, but as Tom mentioned, I need springs and tires for more difficult terrain.

Ali,Raul
Wanted to thank u guys also for hosting last Sundays outing.
I will be attending the CLRC outing in LAKE GENEVA on Saturday.
Thanks to Tom, Ali and Raul I'm HOOKED to offroading. Haven't stopped looking stuff up for my Disco since Monday morning. My 2000 Corvette convertible was in for service last week and I haven't picked it up yet (not important anymore).

Al,

Funny how slow in the dirt is more fun that fast on the street! I went from a 95 TA with the 5.7 350 to my Discovery and I haven't missed it one bit. However, if you did want to sell the vette cheap.... :)

Tom,
Well thx to u guys, I cancelled my N20 kit for the vette. Placed the order for the ARB BULL BAR.
Planning on getting a stripped out Disco2 and get rid of the vette.

Almost brings tears to the eye.

Al - Don't get a stripped Disco 2, get a stripped Disco 1! More parts for less money, better departure angle and less sh*t to go wrong!

I hope I didn't open a can of worms here....

Tom,
How about traction control, you got to admit it does wonders. Dont get me wrong, I do like the Disco1. But I like to see how much I can do with DiscoII. Ali sent me bunch of links for LR.
Not much out there for Disco II yet.
But hopefully , I'm working on a beat up 1999 Disco II. I let U know if I buy it by the weekend.

ps. Anybody interested in 2000 Corvette SILVER covt. with 12k
asking 49k
LoL

Al,

I agree that traction control is good stuff for what it is. I became a believer when I saw your rig hopping up those hills. However, good old fashioned lockers do better and will get you further. The difference is that ETC needs a lot of wheelspin to kick in, while lockers do not. Also, the one bad thing about ETC is if you are going backwards down a hill, it has been known to lock up the front wheels and cause a dangerous condition. I would just hate to see you get the DII and then decide you wish you would have went the other way.

All that aside, if you still want the DII, check out the Greg Davis photo gallery. His is a good act to follow.

By the way, if it is bumpers you are looking for, you may want to hold off for the AedoFab ones. They will be better than the current lot on the market, especially when it comes to the DII. Shoot me an email for their phone number.

The thing with traction control is that it does NOT kick on until about 1200 rpm, also if u touch the brakes, ETC disengages, making "left foot" braking for traction useless. Also, Hill descent works in reverse as well, and as gimmicky as it is, if u got it, you might as well engage it, as it does work, both going forward and backward. The good 'ol Difflock, in my opinion is a better choice, also the D1 is 4 inches narrower and 6 inches shorter with almost all of that being rear over hang. Although a D2 with ETC AND difflock is pretty impressive. I own a D1 and drive D2's all day long, on the highway its D2 all the way, but it the dirt id stick with the tried and true D1:)
