I am contemplating either replacing the stock head unit or adding a FM modulator to the existing stock radio since I use Mini Disc format. Can anybody convince me why I should keep the existing head unit and if I replace it, is there anything I should be aware of that is unique to my Rover? Thanks in advance.

The only reason that I could see for keeping the stock head unit would be if you like using the weather band.. Other then that I can't think of any reason that the stock head unit is better then any of the other (cheaper) replacements. You may even be able to find one or two out there that also have the weather band but, the ones that I have seen are expensive like the clarion auto pc head unit with the extra attachments for weather and nav. I plan on replacing mine as soon as I get my lift next year as then I'll never be able to here my stereo with the tires I plan to put on. I'm looking for ones that have a line in jack on the front of the head unit so that I can hook my portable handheld 20gig NEO jukebox up to it and have a (MP3) 500 cd disc changer in stead of 6 disc or 10.. So far I have found a few but, I'm still looking for others. I never use the weather band so it doesn't make a difference to me.

How hard is it to change the sound system in a Disco?(97) I've heard you have to re-wire everything.

Just make sure you take it to a shop that will still make use of the rear subs. I had to go to a few places before anyone really knew what they were doing.......then again I live in central PA. The weather band is a nice feature when camping and so on, but I just got a CB with weather band to make up for the one I lost from my original head unit.

How big is this NEO 20 gig jukebox? Is there a link or picture of one? How much do they cost? Right now I am using my laptop to play my MP3 through the stearo via a tape cassette adapter.

The NEO is made by I/O Magic it sells for about $450 or so and is about the same size as a normal portable CD player. They sell them at CompUSA if you have one in your area or you can check your local computer store. Can also order online. You can use a tape adapter, RF adapter, or if you have a head unit with an input in the front or rear you can use that. I don't like the tape adapters though so I'm looking for a new head unit with line input on the front. Take a look at it. I like it. If you get one directly from SSI (company that makes them for IOMagic) you can get it without a hard drive and get what ever size laptop drive you want..
