I am sure this is a fairly common issue with these trucks and more than likely could be a ton is different solutions to what is happening, but I would like to at least narrow it down a little. I have a '96 Disco (auto) with 55,000 on it. I have just replace the shocks and steering stabilzer with OME all around. It did help the moderate shake I was getting in the steering wheel and over bumps and the sort. Now I am getting a minor constant vibration in the truck and wheel at speeds of 70 mph and above. Just not a smooth ride and after a few hours in the truck it is annoying. I also noticed recently that when in the highest gear at low rpm's when I accelerate hard without making the truck downshift there is a very noticable vibration the truck. Seems to come from the driveline maybe. (worn splines?) Just would like to hear anyones suggestions on what to look at first. The tires were balanced about 5 months ago and I have the stock Michelins on it. Thanks much!!

This is pretty common in the disco to a degree , since I am not there I dont know how bad yours is doing it.You should definately remove the drive shafts and check the U joints well. If its a front one it can have a catastrophic failure. Does this thing have a roto flex in the rear? I have seen the vibs come from worn slip joint in front shafts , pinion angles , worn Roto , etc etc. Pinion angles and shaft wear would be the leaders.. THis thing lifted at all?

no lift at all. just OME shocks and dampener with stock springs. is the rotoflex the piece that conntects the driveshaft to the rear diff? not sure what part you are speaking about. it is not doing it all the bad. not a violent shake like a badly worn CV joint in a front wheel drive car. but enough shake to vibrate the entire truck vibrate and you can see the seats or anything else vibrate. enough to be quite annoying on long drives. thanks again.

The Rotoflex is the rubber coupling at the end of the driveshaft. It takes the place of a U-joint.

Just getting back to you now. Yes I do have the rotoflex at the back of the driveshaft. I could not tell you if it is worn or was ever replaced. Is is a good idea to replace this item anyway. I have heard some people actually replacing the rotoflex with a u-joint. Is this a good idea? And could this be the cause of my slight vibration?

Thanks again~

after further inspection the rotoflex looks to be in great shape. no deep cracks or anything unusal looking at all. But maybe i do not know what to look for.
