I have just bought my first Disco ( a 96 v8 es done 75k) after 2 years driving a Subaru Impreza WRX. Now I know it is an off roader and didnt realy expect too much in the handling stakes compared to the impreza. But - mid corner braking and lane changes on the motorway are "butt-clenching" manouvers!!
So some form of suspension upgrade looks on the cards.
I have heard that Bilstein or OME shochs are good but these look pricey. De-Carbon look cheaper but are they any good? Also should I fit Poly-Bushes as well? I am unlikely to off-road.
Any suggestions ?

If your Disco has done 75k then the shocks if original were worn out about 55 k ago. Ditch em and install Bilsteins or OME. Don't use Bilstein on the steering damper
The springs are also weak/gone so install something a little stiffer but try to avoid increasing ride height.
If still unhappy after that then I'd examine stiffer anti sway/roll bars/bushes etc

Know how you feel Martin. I still have my 99 Disco but to make life more interesting I have a A4 Quattro with a APR Stage 2. Both totally different vehicles, the power and speed in the A4 make up for the frustation that I get from my Disco until I head off into the desert for some 4 wheeling. You will never get even the hint of being close to the performance of your WRX with the Disco. Like the previous posts said. Change the springs and shocks and you will see a great improvement.

I added the Old Man Emu springs and Biltstein package from Great Basin Rovers. Drove a D2 on Friday with ACE and mine handles even better.

Took the salesperson for a spin and he was way surprised with the difference.

the Freelander handles like a car, its incredible. I was throwing that thing into turns at speeds I would never consider with a Disco, RR maybe, but defintely not a Disco. That V6 has a lot of pep as well. Would I want to take it to the trails...nope, not with that massive belly and no low range...

Check with GreatBasinrovers.com I am not sure of what the number is but they were a part of a package. Let him know that you spoke to Will from Virginia. (i get no perks) but it may help him with explaining the deal with you.

I whip my Disco around like a car and it handles corners and quick turns with ease. The other plus is I like the sporty responsive feel it gave me on the off road as well. I am going to add a castor align kit on mine to even make it tighter.

you may or may not know, but Great Basin Rovers will also sell matched length springs. I recently istalled a set of OME HD coils all around that are Driver's side and therefore a little taller without the lean.

If you are unlikely to go offroad then I think you are going the wrong way with OME. I would look into Famous Four springs which are stiffer than stock but don't give much in the way of lift.

Famous Four out of the UK. Not much of a market for good handling RR and discos here. For what you gain with the OME is spring rate you will lose it most of it due to the added hieght.
