Model: 1997 SD7
Problem: Cruise control SET doesn't work

The cruise control worked in the past, maybe as recent as a month ago. Yes, I was going over the 28 mph requirement.

The instrument cruise control master button lights up, but the speed SET button doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried it both with the master button pressed and not pressed.

I'm starting to wonder if there is an electrical circuit problem. Why? Because the rear wiper is on the same fuse, and it started acting weird recently.

A few weeks ago, the rear wiper stopped working too, from the instrument panel wiper button, but worked with the wiper/wash button. Now it works again normally. However, once in a while it won't work until I've driven a few feet.

I've checked every fuse in the fuse block under the steering column. I've double-checked the cruise control fuse, and the speed transducer fuse, and they're both fine.

Help! Any ideas?

Scott

Check the actual black vacuum unit that actuates the cruise control. Mine wouldn't work at all, and I found a crack in it that was leaking vacuum. Check it out and patch any cracks you find. Jay and Lazarus--'94 Disco

The CC is probably a vacuum leak as indicated by Jay, could be the diaphragm or any number of vacuum hoses on that loop.

The rear wiper is probably a result of a faulty wiper motor. The wiper motors suck big time.

It seems that if something is going to break, it will wait a bit until something else is ready just to make sure that you are really confused. It is a special feature of Land Rovers.

Mine quit working a few months ago and when the shop looked into it they found a loose vacuum hose. That was all and it was under $20 bucks to fix.

Mine has done the same thing and my rear wiper is not working either. The manual says that the mirrors are on the same circuit with the rear wiper and the cruise and my mirrors work. I checked the fuse and it is ok.
Where is the speed sensor? Mine seem to start after I washes the underside of the engine.....don;t know why this would affect the rear wiper though.....any help is appreciated.
