I used to use a Fram Double Guard DG16. A standard Fram PH16 will also work well enough. Recently, I've stated using a Purolator (because it's about a dollar cheaper and filters better). It's Purolator filter L25195.

...here's a subquestion: what's the difference between the PH8A and the PH16 (aside from 8 is half of 16, numerically)? I've heard the 8A mentioned before as the filter to use...

The 8 is longer.

I recently switched to AC filters from fram as the results of some testing reports that I read. The AC filters were about twice as efficient. Given that they cost about the same I went with the ACs.

I was at a K-Mart when they were going out of business and picked up 50, yes 50, castrol oil filters at 50 cents each. Obviously, if Castrol filters are crap, I will be happy. Anyone have any comments?

Mobil 1 filter and AC Delco Gold are good synthetic element filters - I use both interchangeably - usually $8-9.

You've been able to find a Delco Gold filter for a Disco? Pleas tell me where. That's what I would recommend, as it's better than even a PureOne, but I haven't been able to find any...

Anyone have any opinions for the K & N filters? I don't think it's ever been discussed.

Guys you want the best you just have to break down and pay for it sure there are plenty that will work most with few problems but I think everyone will agree Mobile 1 has the best filters and oil you just have to pay for it......my 2 cents

Wes, those K&N oil filters... save your money. Buy a Mobil 1 filter or Delco Gold or PureOne. I surely didn't get my $14.99's worth out of a K&N oil filter, and I don't see that it did any super extrordinary filtering for what it cost.
...that's my 1499 cents

Pure one is techically the "best" at filtering although personally I couldn't care less.

For the AC Delco Gold (or Mobil 1, or any other filter) - just use the Ford small block filter (equivalent number to PH8 - also you can use the Mopar shorter/fatter version equivalent to the PH16)

Why do oil filters have different sizes. I use k&n oil filter and theres two diffrent sizes. Just curious, does it matter for the same price they sell em?
