I noticed a small crack in my rotoflex on the end of the propeller shaft while working on my truck this weekend. Any secrets to changing it out? It looks simple: 6 nuts and bolts.

Also, who has the best price for one?

Hey,

Since it is time for a replacement anyway, you may want to go with a U-Joint instead. There is one over in the for sale section. Don't know everything else that you may need, but it can save you headache and hassle in the long run.

Anyone have experience in doing this who can chime in?

I just replaced the Rotoflex a couple weekends ago. There is a little more than meets the eye. After unbolting the rotoflex, you have to pull the drive shaft off from the front to remove the rotoflex. The end of the driveshaft sits on a smaller shaft coming out of the pinion. The new Rotoflex comes with a new seal for the driveshaft, but I couldn't remove the old seal, so I left it in place. That's about it.

What years' have Rotoflex? Do DII have them?
How can you repair it with a u-joint(why is it needed)?

Older Discos (96 and older, I think) have them. If you have a DII, you have nothing to worry about.

Has anyone tried a Tom Woods rear shaft replacing the rotoflex with one of their adapter plates?

A brand new series II also uses a roto-flex. as far as the "seal" in the replacement kit That is actually a bushing that centers the driveshaft on the pinion flange. If you don,t replace it at the same time as the coupler you will shorten the life of your new coupler considerably.
