Hey all,

Does anyone know what the 'key' items are needed to create a homemade Rivnut tool to install the rear ladder? There's a write up in the Expedition Exchange web site, but John Lee didn't really specify the exact materials used. I appreciate any help.

The Rivnut tool that came with my RoverTym sliders (as far as I can tell) is simply a grade 5 or 8 bolt that is properly threaded for the rivnut with an oversized nut and washers between the bolt head and rivnut to allow the bolt when tightened to collapse the rivnut freely. I do not know if this would work on the ladder or not. There is also a write up in the teh section with a homemade rivnut tool.

SafariGard gives away a rivnut tool with each bumper they sell. It is much better than RoverTyms. Give them a call (www.safarigard.com) and see if they will rent/give/sell you one.

Wesley is right. All you need are a bolt that fits the rivnut, an oversized nut, and two washers. I read John Lee's artical and thought it was very detailed. He even said what kind of bolt you would need.
