If you were to only put on one locker, which axle would it have the most benefit, the front or the rear?
Rocky steep loose terrain with a lot of woops.

REAR since on a uphill where you need most traction, most of the weight of the vehicle is on the rear axle.

Rear. The front axle needs to stear. On off highway trucks CAT D400s and Volvo A35s Locking the front axle makes the truck crab sideways in turns. The only time that locking the front is a major advantage is when going straight where stearing corections are not needed. My $.02 worth

Rear. For the above reasons mainly and also for the fact that the rear axle is a bit stronger.

So has anyone tried one of the cable lockers from Great Basin Rovers?

rear, buy HD axles! I put a Detroit in and broke my axle 2 miles later. This is an extreme case, but it does happen.
