I was told the fuel filter is located within the fuel pump itself. So @ 30K do you actually change the pump? I can't imagine this would be cheap. Or do you simply wait until the whole thing fails and replace it. I like to do preventative maintenance - any advice would be appreciated.

That is correct, the filter is integrated into the pump. You are basically SOL.
