Hello, again.

First, thanx much to the pointers on the frozen Diff problem. I'm going to tackle that this weekend (as well as my first LR oil change) and see what I can do. I hope to discover that it is just the "tight screw" problem before I need to take open my console!

This brings me to the point of my msg. I'm taking the plunge into doing as much svc work as I can on my 96 Disco, but am woefully short on reference material. The tech tips here and at other sites have been invaluable, but I hate to ask every little question. I have tried to locate a Hayes or Chiltons or similar manual for the vehicle, but no one seems to carry them (or even able to order them). I have seen some people here say they have the Haynes, and others have mentioned a copy of the actual shop service manual.

I will admit, I'd rather not have to spend $100 to get my hands some rare tome of knowledge, but I definetly need it! Would there happen to be a
scanned version on line somewhere (pdf or such)? Or if someone has the service mannual, could I send them some $ to copy the pages (they are 3-ring binders AFAIK)? If neither, could someone give me the full name and ISBN number of a good manual (perhaps even a reasonable price I should expect to pay). I need something that shows full disassembly of all pannels, electronic wiring (this is probably the one area I'm really comfortable with), and mechanical blow outs. Some good service procedures would be a major plus, but not critical.

Do you have a credit card? Then go to www.haynes.co.uk. Look up the Discovery repair manual, and fill-out the order form. Was delivered to me in about 4 days (I'm in Virginia). At the time of purchase, the exchange rate was $1.41 USD per English pound. Probably not much different now. Cost me like, $28.

It's a decent manual, but isn't quite as detailed as what you're probably looking for. However, it's better than nothing. To me, my Haynes manual has been invaluable.

Basic resources (and much more to branch off too from there) include:

www.BritishPacific.com
www.AtlanticBritish.com
www.RoversNorth.com
www.RoverConnection.com

From those three, you can get a Haynes manual, a full factory service manual, the majority of belts, hoses, etc you need, etc.

There will be better deals on items here and there, and shopping via the net will get you deals, but if you start there (the first three will send you free parts and accessory catalogs), you are heading in the right direction.

Not to be a "copy right" cop, but $100 for a factory manual is DIRT CHEAP. Especially for a modern/current vehicle. It's one thing to be thrifty, but....

Thanks for the pointers. I was trying major chains (B&N, Stroudwater, etc) as well as some generic online book stores w/ no luck. I'll see what the specialties have.
