yeah I saw the commerical(pretty cool with the Defender and the Freelander). I just saw Tomb Raider too, it was OK, but I was expecting a lot more Land Rover stuff.

Saw a blurb on USA News Paper yesterday. Cost $175,000 to build the Tomb Raider D-110. Huh? How can that costs so much? They built two for the movie. The 20 cool switches on the dashboard are used to turn on the LEDs right above them only!

Watched Tomb Raider today. Not much LR action scenes. One RR appeared on quick cameo role in a sidewalk. No discos in sight. Very cool 110. I wonder if someone makes that roll-up canopy/awning for a disco? As for the movie itself, I give it a 2 stars out of 5.

They also blew up a range rover in the garage scene

Ah! You guys DID watch for LRs. A couple of other folks I talked to missed the RR and the Discos. In the garage scene, I saw a glimpse of the RR wheels. Then boom! When it crashed landed, I heard my wife (who didn't really want to go watch a busty action movie) let out a moan. As soon as I spotted the Discos, I felt her elbow in my ribs. Gotta admit, I did a little "jungle driving" on my way out of the theatre lot.

Is Angelina Jolie that short or the D110 was lifted really high? Too bad I missed the discos. Were they at the same scene as the parallel parked RR? Anyway, I just hoped they did some cool suspension articulation scenes. That would've been so cool!

It was a modified 110 High Capacity Pick-up, it was built by Land Rover Special Vehicles division for the film (actually 2 were built). It has a 4.0L V8 EFI and an auto box. As far as exterior mods.... Well, where to start: It has a custom cage, it has been shortened and the body, tons of aluminum armor plate have been used all over the inside and two strange bits behind the doors, sand ladders have been stuck on the sides, front and rear winches, snorkel, recaro seats, rocket launchers, awning, lights, sill protectors, tool boxes, aircraft tie-downs, Bonati silver paint and more.

There has been talk in the English rover mags about making a limited run of those 110s for public sale. Of course, not here in the good ol' USA. If we weren't so quick to pave every flat spot in the country we might still be able to buy real trucks!

The disco's were parked on the street in the scene where Lara is racing to an auction on a motorcycle...I felt sorry for the mini that got crushed by the RR...

If the government wasn't so flippin concerned with every vehicle having to have an airbag, we'd still be able to get Defenders, since they meet all current emissions crap. So tell me, if you're driving a 5000-pound truck and you hit somebody in a car, who's gonna get hurt the most? The driver of the non-airbag 5000-lb truck, or the driver of the 3000-lb crush can of an American family sedan? Doesn't seem to be a problem for the rest of the world to figure-out...

just because it's big doesn't mean it's safe. did you all see the crash testing on the Ford F-150 (think it was this model) several weeks back. but to make a long story short, the truck literally fell apart on an offset head on at 40 mph. the best vehicle tested was a BMW. the testing agency (insurance institute) had never seen any car/truck have such poor results. at least ford did not shrug this off and not owe up to the tests. they seemed more concerned about their horrible results than past companies. i can speak from past experience that some of you may have seen from the pics i posted of my accident. i tagged a nice big maple tree in vermont doing 40++ mph in my '94 Disco (R.I.P.) and walked away with a banged up knee and a major headache. without my airbag i KNOW i would not have walked away........or walked away at all. i am not saying that all cars/trucks should have to have them, but just glad mine did. but like you were saying if i am driving head on against a miata or geo tracker........pretty sure i know what will happen. picking someone else's teeth out of my tires.

I would like to see an organized lobby by off-roaders and others to ease restrictions on "gray market" trucks. Anyone have any ideas?

E Snyder
It sounds great but unlikly to happen.
We are talking the US gov. We would not have enough people and money Now if A-Hole Clinton was still in office we could have just bought a Hooker and some cigars and we would all have D-90's.
The US Gov. wants us all to be safe. That is why they control what we can buy. I think that so we stay alive and keep paying taxes. In our free country how much freedom do we really have.
What really makes sense is you can build a Kit car That my Disco would destroy in a crash but you can't bring in any D-90's makes sense to me.
Don't get me started.:)
