Took a 200 mi trip this weekend in 94 degree weather and while I had my A/C on, I noticed a mist (condensation?) coming out of the vents. This is the first time I've used my A/C since buying my (95) Disco, and it didn't happen until about 100 mi into the trip. Was all highway driving, never had a vehicle w/ A/C B4, and it was plenty cold. Any ideas?

I've seen this in my disco and other vehicles sometimes and assumed it was fine. Looks kind of cool to be blowing smoke.... Doesn't seem to happen that often. It must require a certain alignment of the planets.

A/C is overcharged. I've seen the same thing occur in other cars after the cracker-jack mechanics overcharged the A/C system. It was explained to me something like the condenser coil freezes and the warm air passing over the coil thaws the frost which creates a mist that's blown out of your dash vents. Whether this is the true origin of the mist or not, I don't know. Anyway, have your A/C system checked.

Hmmm...I'll keep this in mind if it happens again. Thanks for the info.

planet alignments...still dreaming about Croft's D110?

I bet you were dreaming about her D110....yeah right!!!!

Was that a D110? I though it was a D90. Looked awfully short. Either way, that truck's exhaust didn't sound like any Rover V8 I've heard. I wanna know what they put on it

You probably didn't hear the actual exhaust anyway. A lot of the sounds we hear in movies are recorded after the fact. Has anybody ever come across a real gun that sounds like the gunfire we hear in the movies?

A mere $175k and it's yours! They built two for the movie per USA newspaper. Also the 20 switches only light up the LEDs!

on another note....my 95 disco did this (or did when I lived in New York) never did figure it out.....so I moved. Now that I'm in California it seems to have stopped...I figure it has something to do with the humidity....try moving..:-)

Paul L - don't worry about the mist out of your vents. All my vehicles do the same thing when it's hot & humid outside, it's only condensate. Before you stop and turn the car off, turn off the AC, put the blower on high, and let it blow for a minute to get the water out of the vents or you'll grow mold and that stinks.

Ah, thanks. That's pretty cool, in a movie prop sort of way. I'd rather the Kalahari Disco II, personally

The real slick thing (not mentioned on the ee site) are the two inch recievers in the sliders. I had this idea before the movie came out (I think if you search you will see it in the archieves but maybe it was the old site), this way you can run a multimount winch sideways.

Would an overcharged AC cause overheating too?

The misting is caused by water being backed up in the rubber drain hoses from the ac vent outlets. Easy to fix, just crawl underneath and locate the hoses, (one on each side of the tranny) and squeeze the rubber fittings on the end of the hoses. You will probably get wet, but its only condensation. The rubber fittings are there to keep mud from getting in the drain hoses and plugging them, but occasionly they seal themselves up and need to be opened. Try it, it works!! At least LRovers have drains in the system, others just let the water sit.
