I bought a used discovery, and don't know about the history too well. I know, I should have checked it before I bought it. But anyhow I just love it too much.
Question: There are some paint (yellow and red) marks on some of the components of the disco. For example, there are red paint cross mark on the T-box. Does it mean that the dealer has repair/replace it, or does it come from the factory?
Thanks.

A lot of times when parts are used or off a wrecked land rover they will mark them like that at the junkyard. You will see this on pretty much all used parts.

i know that LR itself used to mark certain drivetrain components in the early 90s since they had the Discos and the RRs on the same mechanical belts....so that there were no confusion....but that was before 1992...so no NAS LRs must be effected...

If the dealer has done a factory recall or upgrade, the bulletin usually suggests that the service tech mark the part with a paint "x" to identify that the upgrade has been performed. If it is on your transfer case, they may have upgraded the input shaft to the newer long-splined cross-drilled model. My two cents, Jay

Humm,
Do you mean little stripes across nuts and such fittings? They are there to show you if the part is acking off or coming loose.

Yep, the T-case is marked with a red paint "X". You may be right that the dealer might have repaired the T-case before. Hmmm... I don't know there is still a clonk sound when I switch to reverse from drive.
Thanks.
