my fellow dancing friends-

somebody hit my disco last night (hit and run :( )- but it might turn out to be a good thing. I've read the posts here about safari gard, and how they suck, but are the front bumpers OK (BESIDES COST) ? I've seen the rovertym bumpers (pics) and they're not very sexy (yet) and I think ARB's are just plain ugly. No offense to anyone meant. So is SG good or bad ? I'm concerned about my approach angle...and sturdiness compared to the stock bumper...

Kyle- I like your bumper, but the brush guards don't seem to hold up under pressure from the side, as I've noticed on other rovers...Are there any other bumpers that are sexy AND sturdy ?

I like the SG, but if John had a bumper I might buy that as supposedly they are cheaper.

Cost really isn't an issue, as insurance will be paying for it- i.e. instead of replacing the stock brush bar, bumper, cap, and valance.

Terrainmaster is a little known option worth looking at..really nice, too. Check out Chris Browne's photo gallery.

Well,

You might want to find out what the total check will be before you go hog wild. I can't imaging stock pieces new being too much (not enough to cover a winch and bumper), althought the brush bar is 6bills so that alone should cover 1/2 of a SG or so. The other thing is SG is usually backlogged quite a bit so it could be a while to wait. Finally you could always buy a used stock front and save the money for something else.

RTE's is still in the raw stage - wait till it bakes for a while...

Also, Kyle's is still a prototype, and the grafted OEM brush bar is not necessarily part of the finished product (correct me if I'm wrong, Kyle).

The basic idea is to increase approach angle with the blade design and make it beefy enough for winching and recovery points. Sexy comes after those key points are addressed. Besides, what's sexier than seeing that beefy tread on those front tires?

The firewall here won't let me open the TerrainMaster website, would it be to much trouble to post a GOOD pic of it here???

Oh, yeah, I'm getting $1800. $300 of which is body damage. I'll be buying the winch on my own, as a friend of a friend of a friend of mine works for warn here in Oregon.

GO CUSTOM!
the best you want, you will have!

Fix the body damage with a sledge hammer and get a SG or rovertym. The TM looks like crap. Its cheap (400) which is what makes it an option. Also Matt at Rockware supposedly will make you a bumper for your disco custom.

Here is the terrainmaster bumper pic that they sent to me. Aesthetics is subjective. I think it is looks good as a nice, no-nonsense product. I would buy this if I wasn't going custom...

Andy, So that is why I put one of those ugly ARB's on (I agree but could not wait for shipping)

John,
I think Kyle was looking to buy one.

Hehehehe

Ron

PS Tom I meant in that it looks poorly made like crap. But I dunno since I have not seen it up close to tell for sure (I am looking at the front plate part).

I will have one for sale as well. I think you will see more then a few popping up for sale here and there. THe "Stock" brush guards I am using arent so "stock" anymore after being sleeved and tied into the blade they are just as strong as anything else. Better looking too......

Andy: Get the one that works for you. Its ultimately a personal decision -
I simply wanted to keep the stock appearance if possible and costs down. You're used to the brush guard and therefore I'd expect you to get something similar.
FWIW Terrainmaster was a chance discovery on my part. Never heard of them before and I did some checking with Uk contacts before making the leap. $400 cost quoted above is delivered fedex to your door- the Ramsey was $850 delivered -
Just remember go with what you like.

I have the SafariGard front bumper with integrated skid plate. I love it. The skid plate makes it very strong. I also like the non-air bag ARB bumper. Both are good bumpers. I can't speak for any of the others.

Lots of luck,
Mike B.

Andy
I just went through the same situation, wrecked my standard bumper with insurance covering the cost for a new bumper. I was able to find the non-airbag winch ARB for $570.00 which included shipping.
