Anyone know if the flex plate/torque converter setup is the same as an American auto or is there more than one flex plate down there or what? Thanks for any info

As far as I know there's only one flex plate; that's all they had in the BMW cars of the '80's. The only change made to that transmission that I know of was a re-engineering of the forward clutch pack in the early '90's, as they were prone to blow-out under fast idling in Park, Neutral, & Reverse.
