I am currently looking to buy a 2001 Disco. since it's late in the year, the colors and options available at the dealers are limited. Any news on whats in store for the 2002 line-up. Dealer here in So. Cal states, Yellow will be a new color and thats about it.

Yea they are bringing out the Kalahari (sp) Special Limited Edition Disco. I read they will only make 150 to 250 of them and they are about $40,000+. They are painted the yellow with the Matt black sun deflector panted on the hood. Also got a lot of beefed up stuff on them. But for the regular Disco`s i`m not sure yet what they are doing. I hope they add better colors to the SD line as i`m going to buy one next year as well.

Yeah that's what I heard too. They will put the RR 4.6L V8 engine under the hood along with a center diff lock, but it won't be available this year(maybe early next year).

I 4.6 liter, a locking diff, and traction control.. That could be pretty nice.. Wonder what the price tag on that would be.. I would still really like to see them bring the D-90 back to the USA in 2002.. But, I'll be lucky if they bring them back in 2005 like I keep hearing.. Or a rag top Disco..

One of Land Rover Portland's guys tells me that they are going to make the differential gearing taller to get a little better mileage. Apparently, their "focus groups" tell them that's important in a 5000 lb. SUV.

4.6...about time; should have done that years ago...but I bet it'll only be in the primo versions. Anyway I'm still in an oldish 94 with a pepped up 3.9 for now.

How did you pep up your 94?

2002 apparently will be the last year of the traditional disco. the 2003 model in the uk, (so 04-05 here) will be a "radical departure from"... so you can take that to mean all sorts of stuff. but it's meant to compete more head on with the mercedes and bmw suv's.

freelander out by december (yeah!) and the debut of the L322 at the l.a. auto show (january 2002)- this will be the first time in a long time i will be truely excited about being able to get in on media/industry days - will try and schedule to be there during the actual launch. something very satisfying about eating free nice food - paid for by land rover!! (well ford actually) even further down the pike is the super disco on a 8-10" stretch chassis to fill the price gap between the L322 and the current disco.
