Always change your filter.
It's cheap insurance.
You'll need about 6 quarts.

are you sure it's only 6 qts? I just changed mine last night and it took 7 qts. I filled up the filter, put 6 qts in, and took it for a spin, and came back and added another quart...it's just a little over max line, but still had to have most of the 7th qt.

Should only be 6 quarts, even with a long filter (Ford smallblock filter)

Would overfilling with oil more than what its supposed to be will cause valve cover gasket leaks?

My manual for Series 1 1999 Disco-SD calls for 7qt.

Humm,
I thought it was 7 too. To lazy to check and I am famous for confusing numbers between rovers.

Everybody...My shop manual for my 95 disco says (with a filter chng) 6 3/4 qts, so everybody's more or less right.

Put in seven, it will leak out the extra
;-)
