After hearing a few fender benders I was curious to know about other accidents that other people have had in their Discos and how they and the Rover have faired. I've been driving my truck around with a safe secure feeling that in an accident, I've got a lot better chance then in a 4 Runner, Pathfinder, and other such SUV. But, I just want to put facts to the feeling.

This accident does not involve a Land Rover but I am glad I drive a Range Rover....what do you guys think would've happened if the Drag Racer would've hit a modified Disco, RR or D90/D110?

It would've knocked the suspension right out from under it and sent the truck body skidding on its frame across the intersection LOL Especially if something low like a Lamborghini(sp) hit it.

...nah, I guess in that case, the car would wedge under the Disco, etc., and flip it over. Probably would seriously hurt or kill the driver of the Disco, depending on how much lift the said "modified" truck had.

Hey Jarrod, I had a 98 Disco that I rolled at or near normal highway speeds. I was in pretty thick Denver area traffic doing somewhere in the area of 55-65 when I saw a traffic accident ahead and slowed to avoid any potential problems. Well the butthead was following too close and rear ended me near the right corner. Being that it was winter in Colorado, dry roads, but full of gravel the impact spun me around on the gravel and into the depressed median. The depression and speeded resulted in the Disco rolling onto the roof. I more or less walked away unhurt and a quick trip to the hospital for observations. The Disco is very safe and secure.

One quick note. I had an interesting event the other night coming back from the mountains. I was coming down I-70 on a rather steep section doing a pretty good clip around 75 or so when out of the corner of my eye this god damn deer bolts onto the highway. I hit the brakes hard and did my best to avoid the deer, which I did, but it was a very unsettling feeling that I could have potentially tipped once again. I kept thinking about that CR on the Montero and my high speed avoidance. So it's real important to think about what the hell your going to do in a high speed maneuver. Hit the deer or perhaps chance a roll????

splatter the damn deer - what's more important, you or the deer/woodchuck/dog/cat/squirrel/etc? Of course, your instinct to yank the wheel kicks in faster than rational thought, so you have to overcome that first...

I once tried to run down a stray cow with my truck. All I could think of was the VA law that says if you hit it you get to keep the carcass and the potential for steaks for a couple months. Nearly ran into a ditch trying to hit it, but alas it ran into a field and there was no steaks.

and splatter they do! i was driving my mothers Volvo 850 rather than my Disco one night to the Harrisburg airport cruising (80+/-) on a dark 2 lane highway and within a split second there was a nice 6 pointer grining at me. had only time to JUST touch the brakes. my only instinct was to duck. no time to swerve. did not want those antlers come busting through the window and impaling me in the jugular. did not set off the airbags.(this time a good thing) took the deers legs off at the bumper and the body just wrecked the entire front end. some kid behind my pulled over after just about running over the corpse and was amazed at the red mist that he saw after the impact. about $7000 in damage. now everytime i see a damn reflecter along the road i freak out. this was about a year to date after i totaled my '94 Disco. i gotta stop this. but at least this time it was not my '96 Disco.

Bud, Consumer Reports and the Mitsubishi Montero. Consumer Reports recently gave the Montero an unaccepable or something similar as a rating on the vehicle for it's tendency to roll over during a 35 mph avoidance test. This is similar to the Isuzu rating of a few years back.

I hit a dear with my Disco a couple years back. I was traveling about 65 with a flatbed trailer on back loaded with stuff. I was not about to try to avoid the Damn thing so I just plowed right through it. I hardly noticed the impact in the seat of my pants, but the noise was unforgetable. This was a big Wisconsin Whitetail and he flew at least 50 feet ahead of my truck and into the ditch. Unfortunately, part of the deer (presumably) punctured the radiator and I could not drive on. The moral of the story...If you're going to hit a dear, hav a good brush guard!
