The key here is the R after MT. That signifies the new tire from Goodyear. The MT was a bad tire especially in the sidewall. The new MTR is far supperior to the old MT and BFG MT in all respects. MTR has reinforced sidealls with silica additions, which make the rubber stronger and more durable. The MTR has big sidewall lugs, which further protect the sidewall. You can actually air down to 0, and wheel touching ground, but the actual smooth sidewall will not have touched, it is simply on the side lugs. The BFG has no lugs on the sidewall, less traction, less protection. The MTR will last longer because of a properly designed tread pattern that will work for alot of highway miles, which everyone drives on most. The MTR's are more agressive but not any louder than BFG. Normal contact patch is larger than BFG, MTR has a huge, square shaped patch where the BFG is more oval. When aired down, the MTR's contact patch is twice the normal due to the sidelugs, I wonder what the flat sided BFG will show? I would love to hear someone saying that the BFG is better than the new MTR.

One last thing. I am not biased, I even have the BFG MT's. I am dissing my own treads.

I want to know because I'll be buying in the next 3 months. One thing to consider is what will the new BFG MT be like. It should be here no later than August. By BFG's own admission there design is very old.

Hey, that's what I've been saying all along. I'm a BFG man at heart but I just had a change of heart. Until somebody makes a better all-around tire than the MT/R, I'm sticking to it. Unless of course I want to pay half, the I'll just get a General Grabber or Dunlop Rover RT but then I'l have inferior tire.

I just thought I'd be the first on on the block to have these but with so many people after new tires I guess I'll just look like I'm following the crowds. :D
