i saw these things on a IIA Ambulance over the weekend, they look pretty cool. anyone running them or know anything about them. Apparently they are only 100 bones a tire...

I think Jim is the only one who has them so far on a rover. He really like them.

Ron

PS Radials, cheap 100 for 235 85, they say swamper.

They look pretty good: http://www.intercotire.com/trxus.htm

personnally, i do not really like them...look at their discription...appearently just for show...

anyhow, i currently run 265 80 16 TSL radials...and want to go both wider and taller...so maybe 33x12.5x15 bias ply...so the trexus is not my kinda tire/size...

i would really advise on the 265 80 16 TSL radials...good size and tread...

It's a bit early to dismiss them as made for show. They look like a good AT. They remind me of the BFG Trac Edges that I run which are great all round tyres but get a little cut up on the harder rock. Maybe the trxus will perform better in that area.

As for the TSL radials, I thought they were made for show and rarely taken off road J

The tire shop I normally go to doesn't stock this mfg. Anyone know of shops in SF Bay Area (East Bay pref.) that stock the line of Interco / Swampers?

Cheers,

Jon

Moe...
If I am not mistaken the manufacterer itself claims that the Trexxus is made for peopel who want the show, but do not intend to seriously offraod...
As for the TSL radials, they are made for vehicles that are driven both on and off road...

Nadim,

I think they mean relative to a TSL or Bogger. From what I can see it is about the level of a BFG MT in aggressiveness. Jim (who is the only one I know who has them) says they are better offroad than a Cooper STT (which is more aggressive than the BFG). SO are they a Bogger or TSL, no but they should do fine and be tolerable on the road.

"The Trxus Mud Terrain is Interco's answer to the needs of those who do not require the maximum off road traction but want a superb tire with good looks."

From http://www.intercotire.com/trxus.htm,

In my point of view, they may have a use to them, but i mean, if you want the sparkling stuff, do for the best...no?...i know that people do not want the aggressiveness of teh TSLs, but they do an amazing job on and off the road...

Nadim,

I agree, but people with Boggers say tsls are crap so its all a trade off.

True!
I know...that is why I say that everything has its own uses.

Nadim, the "poseur" quote off Interco's TRXUS web page caught my attention, too. But you can't deny that there is some beefy tread on those tires - how could those lugs not perform well? And those aggresive sidewalls? I think Interco is comparing "those who do not require the maximum off road traction" to those who run the super swampers...

At least Interco didn't try to make another Thornbird variation. Talk about a poser tire. Did you notice that the ply ratings are from 8 to 10 plys? I haven't seen any other "good looking" tire with that many plys except the Thornbird. Anyone?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By nadim on Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 10:33 am: Edit

Eh, Sean...

Thornbirds are not very good tires at all...I mean, they actually suck. A friend of mine has 35" on his YJ, with lockers and all the goodies, and a nice 454 engine, and he can't get the thing anywhere...then again, a LR beats any J***!

I think the Trxus have their place to be used, however, I'm inclined for the more agressive TSLs...I am debating which ones to go with next 33x12.5x15 TSL bias, SSRs, or Bogger?

most manufacturer's 245/75 tires are 10-ply. I'm running 10-ply 245's and they're stiff as hell (which is a good thing :))

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Ron on Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 11:23 am: Edit

You have to remember that with the TSLs and non-radial ones a ply is not the same as a radial ply. So you can't compare them. A 6 ply bias is not worse than a 10ply radial

Ron

PS Yes most E rated (ie 245 75 and 235 85s are 10 ply)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Blue Gill (Bluegill) on Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 11:43 am: Edit

didn't know that the interco's were bias...so would the 8- or 10-ply be even better then? For ~100 clams per tire, those would be nice on $55 steel rims...:) honest honey, we need them for the baby.........

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Ron on Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 11:45 am: Edit

The Truxus are radial.

TSLs are bias

SSR radial

Bogger bias

SX bias

TSL Radial are Guess what?

Ron

I will not even mention the Thornbird

Here is a write up on the TrXus.

http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/2001/06_jun/trxus/interco-trxus.html

Looks like they were met with good results. However, I always prefer a back to back or side by side comparo...
