My 98 Disco has two electric fans sitting on the outside of the radiator and mechanichal one (viscous coupling?) on the inside. I assumed that all Discos had the same setup.

Thanks,
Mike B.

The 2 electric fans are used only with the air conditioning turned on.

I was looking for an electric fan set up to replace the viscous drive fan. ie something that can be turned off while driving through deep water and also puts less drag on the motor. My disco also has the two fans in front for the a/c but those were not my concearn. Any info on replacements for the viscous unit would be appreicated though. Thanks

I've been wading in water up to about 3 feet deep (that is my safe limit). I've never had a problem with the viscous unit. I do have to remember to turn off my AC so the electric ones turn off. What problems have you had while wading through water?

Thanks,
Mike B.

Checkout SummitRacing.com They have lots of aftermarket electric fans that should work.

The deepest I have ever been in mine is about 3 feet and I would have made it except the stupid fan blew water all over the distributor causing the truck to die. I know you can put silicon spray on and stand a fair chance and I have before but was looking for a little added insurance and less drag on the motor going down the road. Have not checked out summit yet but I am trying to get a hold of a company in England that makes a unit. Thanks.

The guys are correct, the twin electric fan on the front is for the A/C.
Look at www.kenlowe.com, they are based in the UK but send anywhere. I have purchased a twin 13" electric fan kit to replace my Viscous fan and will be replacing the unit during July. I am fed up with the noise the viscous makes in hot weather. The only restriction on the electric fans are that you can not run the A/C at stand still, the vehicle must be moving.
I found it easier to fax kenlowe.

why is it that you can not run the ac at a stand still. shouldn't the electric unit work just like the viscous in regards to cooling the engine. As far as I know they run off of a temp switch and wouldn't that be a seperate system than the ac cooling fans that come on with the the ac system.

When I brought the fan kit Kenlowe asked what the max ambient temp would be. I am in CO and said the max ambient temp would be about 95. Thats when he told me that I would not be able to run the A/C at a stand still. I think that the heat produced from the A/C cooling fans would put excess heat onto the engine radiator and make the twin Kenlowe electric fans run for an extended period of time. This would then reduce the life of the Kenlowe fans and viod the Warranty.
Something like that.
I do not need to worry, I'm to tight to put the A/C on anyway.

When I was strolling around at PepBoys, waiting for my tires to get mounted I saw that they have electric fan units.
I do not remember a price.

I think I paid $150 for the total kit, including shipping. The fans are also water and dust tight. Let me know if you require the phone number etc. I am planning on fitting mine this month. I'll let you know what happens. Also it's ment to improve the gas milage.... We'll see.
