1st gear low range. I was driving down this steep hill (maybe 42 degrees) and about 300 yards long, I put the Disco on 1st gear low range, but I still had to keep the brake pedal pressed. Isn’t this supposed to limit the speed in which it rolls… 5Mph max speed?

Mr. Cabrera:

Hill Decent Control is a feature on Series 2 Discos that limits your speed going downhill. Unless you've upgraded to a Series 2 lately, you do not have that feature.

The advice to keep your foot off the brake pedal going downhill only applies to 4x4 vehicles with manual transmissions (or Hill Decent Control). With an automatic you will need to gently apply brake pressure.

However, do not use your brakes when going backwards down steep hills. This can cause the front end (the heavier end) to try to pass the back end (lighter end). This can cause a roll-over situation.

Best of luck playing in the hills in CA. All of your friends back here in Florida miss you and are green with envy.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Mike
For some add reason, I was under the impression that Disco I had a control speed decent…. I stand corrected. By the way, I order form Nathan, front and read slotted and drilled rotors and front and read Kevlar brake pads. Hopefully they’ll be here next week and I can have them on by next weekend…. Yosemite trip planed.

I saw a nice video showing the results of HDC failure. It's amazing how fast a DII can go down hill sometimes....
