Okay, I've got what I think is a really weird problem. We bought the disco. three weeks ago. We checked the diff before we bought it, no problems. We went four wheelin' the day after we bought it, no problems. Last weekend I went wheelin' and it was working fine. At the end of the day I tried to get it out of 4 low and it wouldn't go, finally after tinkering and backing down the driveway it popped out and I got it into what I thought was normal-hi. We went up to the property this weekend and I tried to put it in low. The diff. lever will only toggle back and forth between 4/normal. It won't go up or down in any of the H pattern. I think I'm in norm. but I could be in 4-hi, don't really know at this point. But I've tried pretty hard to get it into hi or low on either side but it won't do anything. When I move the lever to the left it the diff light comes on, if I move the lever to the R it goes off, that's why I don't know where I'm at. We drive an hour to the property and it runs fine at 80 mph on freeway so I'm not totally concerned, just want to get it into low so I can climb more hills!
Thanks,
Lynden

Lynden, your transfer case gear selector can get finicky over time, especially if it's not used much. Since you just bought it, maybe the previous owner didn't shift into 4-Lo much at all, if ever. Try reading some of the archived threads - click on the following for some similar problems and answers. Also try doing a "Keyword Search" under the "Utilities" section on the left side of your screen. Some good keywords are "transfer" or "diff"...

I've read some of the past posts. I also lubed it this weekend to no avail. It's just weird, it floats in neutral, I shouldn't be going anywhere but it drives fine. I can push it left and right but it won't go up or down, I've put quite a bit of pressure at different speeds, 15-0 w/ the gear selector in N. It's just weird. I climbed under and felt around nothing seems to be amiss but I couldn't see anything being underneath. Could my linkage front and rear be off or broken and that's why it won't go up or down?
Thanks for your help.
Lynden

when in neutral are you not getting the "neutral chime?" I dont believe that the Disco should be moving AT ALL when the t-box is in N. I could be reading the post wrong...but something doesnt seem right there...

You really need to read the hand book and/or tech section to get a grip on what you really want to do.

Gil, you're right, something is weird. when its in neutral I do get the chime, it may sound like my truck is falling apart but, the chime is very faint because I have a blown fuse (earlier post re: interior lights are strobing) and I haven't been able to change the fuse. I didn't notice the chime until this weekend, but every time you go from park to drive it'll give a little chime. And when its in neutral I get the chime. The diff. handle only moves left or right, it will not move forward or backwards. You're reading right, its totally weird.
I just want some advice to try and fix it before I go to the dealer and get soaked.
