I heard its not that bad to remove they rear swaybar permanatly anyone run without one?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Yes.
Do you have HD rear springs?
If you do you will barely notice it is gone
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
i got md springs

HDs, no rear sway bar, you would never know the difference. Havent had it on for 30,000 miles. no problems.

No sway bars from the factory (1992 Disco), but after putting HDs (285lbs/in) and lifting 3" front 5" rear...better handling!...but no more 120km/h!

How about with a 2 1/2 in. RoverTym spring and stock shocks?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I dont run a rear bar. No problem.

The stiffer springs help reduce wonder. The only reason the factory installed the sway bars was to compensate for the softer springs used for comfort.
Therefore, in order for the factory to get comfort and good handling at speed, it had to fit soft springs WITH bars front and rear.
However, with the comfort factor out of the way for us offroaders, the stiffer springs do a great job relative to the amount of lift. But, too stiff a spring and your articulation will suffer.
You must know what your LR is for, and then fit the right rating springs.

What about front sway bar removal when upgrading to HD springs?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Actually, if my memory serves right, Land Rover insists that the front sway bar be removed when istalling their HD springs for a winch.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Don't know what Land Rover insists on, but I have run without any swaybars at all for 3 years now. For the first two years I ran OME HD rear/MD front, with OME Nitro shocks. About a year ago, I added an ARB bumper and a Warn M12000, and changed the front springs to HD as well. Both setups has worked well for me.

I have run my 99 Disco with no swaybars front or rear for approximately 43000 miles. I use OME HD's front and rear. I feel comfortable in using the vehicle that way. You have to make that decision yourself.

I too have OME HD all around and am considering ridding myself of those pesky swaybars.
What differences and it what situations have you noticed a change without them?
thanks,
Wesley

I have a '00 DSII and ran 2" spacers, factory springs, and no sway bars. Good ride, great articulation, scary for emergency maneuvers. I now have 3" RoverTym springs, no sways, no spacers. Rides great, handles really well, flexes fantastically. Even did an emergency maneuver and the truck was controlled and stable. Almost took out the @*&%$ J**p though!

"Almost took out the @*&%$ J**p though!"
Darn, maybe next time.....
My Disco's rear sway bar is history tomorrow! I'm keeping the front bar on until I can purchase and install Rovertym's refabbed radius arms - my OME HD springs & nitrochargers have given me a little front-end wander (no extra weight from steel bumper or winch yet to settle the front end down).
Hadaz, when are we going to get together for a little AZ pinstriping?

I will send you an e-mail Bill.

Greg
does Disco II have sway bars both in front and rear? just wondering. Thanks.
Isaac

I yanked both and can't tell any difference without them as far as sway is concerned.
Thanks for the advice,
Wesley

Attn: Issac. Yes, and I do not have ACE. Regular sway bars that are disconnected front and rear.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Why the comment on ACE? How is it related to the sway bar discussion?
I picked a 2000 DII with the "performance package" primarily for the ACE, which seems to do wonders on-road for cornering and interstate cloverleafs. Those glossy 18" tires are definitely a drag though, esp. off-road. They even suck in sand...I wish I would have known about discoweb.org and read comments about those wheels before my purchase! I would have negotiated the 16" wheels into the deal...

the ACE Discos have NO swaybars...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
ain't got no ace and ain't got no sway bars...
sway bars were the first thing to go on my list.
just get used to drivin' without it. though don't thing that any kind of springs or shocks will replace the sway bars.
