Yokies Geolandars (first series) had a bad reputation for tyre wear - maybe the new generation of them are better. Have you considered BFG Trac Edge in the 215 85's? There ain't a lot around in that size. The 245 75's have more brands to choose from - same O.D. and a very tough tyre in just about all brands - 120 load rating etc. Not really a wide tyre the 245 - same tread width as the standard 235 70's generally - just a bit taller and a lot tougher. I've got BFG A/T KO (killer off-road??) 245 75's and am very happy with them.

I have 15k miles on my Yoko Geo AT+ (245/75). On road they are really quiet, I mean REALLY quiet. Actually, too qiuet. Now I can hear every squeak and rattle that goes on inside the truck. Wear at 15k looks good. Much better than the Geolander MT's I had. At 15k, the MT's had only half the tread left and lugs were chewed apart from VT/NH granite. Off road, the AT+ are just as bad as the original BFG AT(no experience with the AT KO). Mud...terrible. The tread does a good job of getting rid of the mud, however they just cant paddle you through the deep stuff. They are good in the sand. My one trip with them to Batsto(Pine Barrens) and plenty of beach driving proved that.
If it's your daily driver and do only mild wheeling, I would reccomend them. If you are looking for something a bit more agressive, I would reccomend the TracEdge or Dunlop RT. They both are a great compromise for on and off road.

hey neil -

what kind of lift are you running with the yoko's? out here in so cal - i don't run into alot of mud, so it would mostly be rocks and sand.

thanks!

OME HD's w/10mm spacers, just over 2 inches. You may wish to check with your distributor. I seem to recall there were two versions available. 'D'rated (7ply) and 'E' rated (10ply). I would go with the 10 ply and the extra thickness. The price difference was only about 8 bucks per tire.

I remember being in a dialog with Ho on the D90 list about Yoko's and weak sidewalls. As he's also out on the left coast, he may have some experience with them in SoCal terrain.

On another note, you might also take a look at the Pirelli Scorpion AT(which also has 10 ply). Great onroad and super tough sidewalls. I watch an XJ at 12psi beat the hell out of them without a scratch. The price is in the same range.

Good Luck

hey neil -

thanks for the reply - but with a milder lift 20mm front 40mm rear - would the 245-75-16 yoko's rub?

Other than the obligatory rear fender trimming you should be fine.
