I just bought (today) a 96 Disco SE, and when I pulled into the drive turned off the truck and began to turn the key to the "off" position to remove it, when it popped into a funny position and now refuses to come out! There is a red light blinking from the lower center part of the dash, and I'm unable to get the key back into release position. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Andy Maier

Congratulations on your purchase! I too recently bought a 96'. I brought it home and the key got stuck in the gas cap! After you get familiar with it and work out the minor bugs you will learn to love it - I have! This website has helped tons and I have learned a lot!

Is the steering wheel 'locked' over? Try turning the wheel slightly while removing the key.

This may seem obvious, but when you remove the key you have to push it IN while turning it counter clockwise passed the final step.

The red blinking light in the lower center of your dash binnacle means the alarm is armed. Maybe you somehow armed it with the remote while you were removing the key ? I don't know what effect this would have though besides locking yourself in.

Hope this helps.
Good luck with the key!
Stephen

Thanks Stephen...I went back outside after reading your response, and maybe unlocking the truck with my spare key deactivated the alarm? Because, sure enough, everything worked as it should...I guess it was my welcome to the quirky world of Landies! :)
