This past weekend my check engine light came on. I decided to purchase the OBD2 software and cable and determine what the problem may be a result of. The software arrived, I plugged everything in, and connected to my Discovery's OBD2 connection.

The MIL error which was detected and noted by the computer was:

P1316: Misfire Excessive Emissions Fault

The light extinguished itself one day after it appeared. Does anyone have any idea what the code may be caused by?

I have gotten this one before. Have you recently put on new plug wires by any chance? Like the Magnecor's. They are a little tough sometimes to get on just right and I have gotten unstable firing in the one cylinder before and 'throwing' this fault code. Sometimes it can just be a misfire in one of the cylinders too. And this can just be a one time deal. As I have said before putting some 93 octane or good cleaner in your gas (B&G) will sometimes do the trick as well. Just too many possibilites here to rule out. Good luck.

No, I have not put on new wires. I will clear the code today, and watch to see if it comes up again though.
