hey guys..
Im swtiching mine out all the way around (94Disco 60k) soon and have a few questions..
Everyone praises bilstien saying it's like a new truck.. come on.. really?
What about genuine? they have em for 189.99 on roverconnection.com
Or rancho?
I want a nice ride around town and wouldn't mind a controlled ride whiel two tracking (never gte too really)...
Basiclly i woulnd't mind people's thoughts, arguments, ideas, and all that..
Thanks, Ben

I still have the wood heads on mine and have no complaints at all. They arent sexy but they have worked for 130K.....

94 Disco
I like the Woodheads...but at 78k mi. they are ALL leaking incl the steering Damper. Will prolly go w/ Roverconnection's deal.

Bilsteins offer a great ride on the street, and off road. You will need to go to their racing shocks on aftermarket mounts to get a lot of suspension travel from your setup.
I've never seen a set of Woodheads that WASN'T shot by 50K miles. The ride is ok, but I prefer the firmer and more controlled ride of the Bilsteins myself.

bilsteins seems to have the nod for on road driving. personally i've been an ome fan for quite a while now. they are also built much tougher externally than the bilsteins.

i have OME with stock springs. have not fully tested them off road, but for mild off roading they seem good. don't ride any better than the stock shocks did with 50K on them. but under load and towing I think they will very well. i hear the bilsteins ride better on road, but the OME's have better control off road. just going on what i have heard over time on the last comment, since i have never riden on bilsteins.

just intalled bilsteins front and rear
on '96 disco - amazing difference in
ride and handling over stock.
got them from atlantic british - worth it.
not too difficult to install but
time consuming for all 4.

Seems you guys like Bilsteins...I have stock on my 94 and the ride is smooth and well controlled. I put Bilsteins on my Saab 900T but took em off again cos it made the ride so harsh, put a set of Boge shocks on and they are perfect for that car....do the billys do the same for the Disco, or is the ride still reasonably comfortable? Don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Bilstiens make it really stiff. I have or had pretty much every shock and the only one I like is Warn XTs but they have been discontinued.

Thanks Ron, thats what I figured...sounds like I'll replace with OEM Woodheads when these are done. At least they are inexpensive. Funny, I originally come from Leeds in the UK...close to the Woodhead Factory....

what do you guys think of the edelbrock ias?
By Blue Gill (Bluegill) on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 02:35 pm: Edit |
no info for you on the edelbrock - just make sure they are spec'd for the weight of the beast...
stock woodheads on my 96 were bleeding like a stuck pig after 40k miles, including the stabilizer. wouldn't put those back on if they were free (why change shocks every 40k? I plan on 200k miles out of the disco, don't want to go through 5 sets of shocks).
OME shocks and springs are built like tanks; ride is firm yet supple...I kind of like the sound of that

Man , I have 130K on mine and it has all the stock shocks including the dampner shock,,,,what are you boys doing to these poor trucks??

We're not doing anything that you're not.
Kyle, I think that you must be in a state of denial. Admit it, you creep under there and wash off the bleeding oil. If you are speaking the truth, then you are in the minority with your good fortune.

actually, there may be one thing I do in the back of my Disco to stress the shocks and springs that you don't...
By Kyle Van Tassel (Kyle) on Thursday, July 05, 2001 - 03:40 pm: Edit |
Ahhh , yes , I am too old and crippled for that...lol. I am serious I have shock that is now just starting to weep a little fluid..

Send them back to Land Rover after you replace them. I'm sure they will want to disassemble them and figure out what was so good about them (so that they don't do it again). Oh wait, now they're owned by Ford...I'm sure it won't happen again.

Curb feelers. What's a rover without curb feelers?
Also, make sure you replace the mud flaps with the ones with the chrome naked ladies and add the neon lighted license plate frame.
We can call it the "bump mobile".
Jeff ;-)

My shit truley does ride like a caddy. Its all good.... Ask Heather , she drives it from time to time. And says that I have bumped my head when I complain about the slightest vibration in it...
