I was thinking about buying an ARB Safari snorkel, and was wondering if I could install it my self. The price I was quoted was $350, which is'nt bad, but then I heard instilation would be another $350 dollars- is this right? How hard could it be. I was wondering if any one has done this install before, and if you could help me out with a little info. Also I was wondering what a snorkel does to hp???

mike- the mantec is a much easier install. the safari snorkel involves about seven or eight holes to be cut into the fender to allow for the snorkel mounts, and one big hole to access the airbox. either style requires the fender to be removed. I have not installed either myself, but have seen them done. I would go for the mantec. as for power?, you're better off with the stock setup.

First I should mention I have a diesel so v8 may be a little different in layout. I had a Safari Snork fitted about 6 months ago, and if done properly it involves a fair bit of cutting (holesaws), sealing and testing but is still only about 2hrs labour plus drying time. The Safari has some space advantage if you want to put a second batt in front of the air box. $350 fitting sounds excessive. Performance is largely unaffected, except of course, in deep water :)

Mike i have a safari snorkel on my d2 v8 i agree with john the fitting cost sound s way over the top. the performance seems slightly affected in the top end of the rev range.

in no way you need to remove the fender.. just the fender lining.. if using the right tools, the instal is a no brainer, i like the space left for the second battery.

you shouldn't pay more than $300 for it. I bought mine a year and a half ago for $265, you need to fit a better plug for the trompet hole and use a lot of silycone..

Does anybody have pictures of their Mantec setup that they would like to share?

I am not too excited about the ARB and the Safari Snorkels because they run outside the fenders; thus subject to being broken off or damaged on the trails. From what I have seen the Mantec one runs inside the fender until just before the A pillar. That seems like there would be less chance of snagging it on something.

Are there any other snorkes available?

Thanks,
Mike B.

Thanx for all the info guys,I really appreciate it! I think I will go with the ARB, because I would like to be able to mount another yellow top under the hood for winching. Any one know who has the cheapest price? I was also wondering what kind of sealing should be done to the body, as far as plugs on the floor and door seals? Is it possible to not have any water seap in during wading? Dont you have to also get a differential breather kit?
