I have a 1994 Disco and one morning as I was adjusting the rearview mirror the adhesive gave way and I pulled it right off the windshield. I gave one of those rearview mirror glue kits a shot, but the mirror was too heavy and glue never bonded properly. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

My grandfather always cut a piece of paper towel and put it between the glass and the rear view mirror to make sure the glue bonded properly. I've never tried it on a Disco though.

Thanks,
Mike B.

I used "Super Glue" - the stuff that goes off instantly and that was 2 years ago - still OK.

I used one of the 'kits' on ours and it worked well. You need to make sure that the window and the back of the mirrors mounting plate are super clean or it wont stick.

My mirror fell off my '94 Disco shortly after I got it several years ago. Glued it back with mirror adhesive that didn't last too long either. Then, windshield got hit by a rock, and the insurance company paid to have it replaced. OEM windshield...the local glass dealer said he's never seen windshield glass that thick. He glued the mirror on with whatever they use. Few weeks later, temps dropped to near zero. The windshield cracked in little rings right around the mirror mount..guess his glue was pretty strong all right. Fortunately, the ins. co. paid to have it replaced AGAIN. This time I did some research...there's a little double-sided-adhesive pad that is used to mount it...there's an official LR part number for it. Got one from Rovers North for a few bucks for the second install, and it's been fine for a couple of years now, through heat and cold.

A note about that pad. When I glued my mirror back on, it was hard to tell where the old 'pad' left off and where the metal began. I almost tried to glue it with the old 'pad' still on the base of the mirror. Make sure you remove if if you go with the glue.

If anyone finds the part # for the OE fix, post it here, I would like to make a note of it.

roverparts.com lists it as STC118G for $3.95.

JCW: Thanks for the lead on the adhesive pad. Got one from Rovers North, but it gave way after five days. Am in contact with Rovers North - hopefully it was a defective part. Appreciate the info on roverparts.com. Will try them if can't get anywhere with Rovers North.
