I recently bought a 96 disco, I have been trying to figure out where the oil is going. I just pulled and changed plugs, from the color I would say it is burning it. Major bummer:^(

I put in Champion truck plugs # 4404, from Autozone, the plug they has listed as stock equivalent in the truck series.

It ran like heck and the check engine light came on. The next day I pulled the plugs and 1 and 2 were crashed, see http://home.fuse.net/ericrat/discoplugs.jpg
the plugs weren't damaged, no insulator cracks, just closed up almost all the way.

The reach is the same with a slightly longer electrode. Has anyone else run these plugs, did I get the wrong part number?

I did a compression check and am at a little over 180 psi. all around, sound like I need a leak down test. I am leaning twoard bad oil rings.

And I was hoping to spend money on tires and springs, sigh...

If those are indeed the correct plugs for the truck. It has carbon build up on top of the pistons..

The LR Faq confirms this is the right plug. Decisions, Decisions, I am getting 16-17mpg, power is good, emissions test was great, as I said compression is good.

Do I just drive it and keep pouring oil in the top? At what point to you decide to rebuild?
