I have a 00 Disco that Im about to take in or its 30,000 mile service call. Was just wondering if I need to consider having at least the front pads replaced? I trust my dealer but would like to be informed before the service call. Thanks.

Changing pads is cheaper than changing pads and rotors. With 20/20 hindsight, I'd suggest to go ahead and change the front pads.
Personally, though, I'd do it myself. Doing just the pads: jack up vehicle and take off tire. Pull out the two cotter pins, and remove the long cross-pins (boing go the springs!). Remove old pads. Compress the pistons. Insert new pads. Replace the cross-pins, with the new springs in place. Insert new coter pins. Reinstall tire, lower vehicle, tighten lugnuts. Done. Wasn't that easy?

Do the discs need to be resurfaced?

wes- rover rotors cannot be re-surfaced. minimum spec is stamped on the back of each rotor.

I really appreciate you guys taken the time to respond to my post. You saved me about $300 letting me know I could do it myself. I would have been really pi##ed if I had paid the dealer only to find out later how easy it was. I guess I assumed it would be complicated because of the ABS and traction control system. Hell, this may be easier than changing the brakes on my old CJ-7. Once again THANKS.
