I'm in the middle of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada in my 95 disco with about 10 series trucks(and a genuine defender 110 from the 92 camel trophy) and my check engine light comes on. I get a little nevous, but all the fluids are good, and it seems to run well so I stay on for 3 more days. I leave on sunday for my 6 hour drive back to the bay area, the back is full, and I have a new roof rack that is full. Before the roof rack I got about 12.5 MPG, no matter what, but I fill up in Sacramento, and low and behold I am getting 13.5 MPG, up donner pass, fully loaded.

So the question is...if this is what this light does, I'm gonna keep it on! However it may drive me nuts, so any ideas what this may be?

Thanks
Scott H

'95 Disco (3.9L) should have the code readout box under the passenger seat. Check it out and see what code you're getting.

mid-95 is when i believe they went to OBD II. either take it to a shop with appropriate reader and they should be able to give you a generic code within a few minutes. could be a number of things. i keep getting a misfire in my #6 cylinder code. seems to run perfectly. not going to really worry about it though.

I took it to the rover dealer (ouch $95 bucks later) and they said that it was the stepper motor. They wanted $450 to fix it, but it seems fine to me. Anyone know where to get one cheap?

thanks
