My kid must have improperly closed the rear door of my 97 Disco. Now it's stuck. The latch is stuck in the up position, as when i try to open it, it's already pushed up and I cant open the door.

Is there a way to open the door from inside, does anybody have any ideas????HELP!

Does the outside latch just kind of flap back and forth with no resistance? Sounds like maybe the catch on the door was somehow already in the closed position when the door was slammed shut - slamming it shut may have just jammed the catch closed further. Have you given it a good shove open from the inside? May just pop open since it's really not latched closed, just jammed. CAUTION - if this is the case, then it may pop open while you're driving. I don't know if you can pull the interior door panel off with the door closed...

You have two options.....You might have an inside door handle depending on your year, otherwise the rear door handle gets stuck every so often, and needs some re-lube.... get a key, or flat head screw driver and stick it up between the door handle and the housing (not to far, only 1/4 inch or so, just enough to grab it)....pry the handle back to its original place. then go ahead and try to open the door again, with someone inside pushing realy hard....once the door is open (hopefully this worked) spray a crap load of w-d40 up where you pried the handle, and also in the actual door locking device itself. then after you spray it down, move the door handle back and forth 20 or so times to assure proper lube.

this happens on occcation to my truck, especially after long rains...i guess it washes away teh lube and the moisture stiffens the handle mechanism up...

its worth atry

wd-40 and let it sit for an hour and penitrate , then work the handle too and fro until it's slick as shit.

Addendum to the above: if you can't seem to get the screwdriver under the handle enough to force it down, or feel like you might break it, remove th eLand Rover emblem on the door handle assy. It pops right out and with it removed, you can easily get to the door handle and lever it down, as well as spraying the shit out of it with WD40 or PB Blaster.

I had a similar problem with a different fix. When I would pull the handel on the outside it would stay pulled, but the door would not release. I took off the door panel and discovered (among other things) that a screw that acts as a pivot had worked itself loose. I sprayed WD40 on everything. Put some locktight on that screw and added and additional return spring to make absolutely shure the handel would reset.

Anodes got it going. I had to do the same thing with my 96 Disco...
