How should I go about mounting rear tail light guards myself? The ones I bought (used) have no rubber backing for between the truck and the guards - anyone have a close up picture or suggestion of what I should put in between? I was thinking rubber washers, maybe? Should I bother with any sealant in there as well? - what type?
Also - if I rivet the things on (I already own a nice rivet tool) - I should use aluminum rivets for them in this area of the body, yes?

Any chance to change your mind about this? These things are really more trouble than they are worth. If they get caught on anything and they will rip right off; leaving a great big gaping hole! The aluminum that you are mounting into is really soft, so there is no good way to anchor them securely.
Thanks,

Mike,
I think I have a good reason for putting them on - every vehicle I've owned in the past has been bashed up or dented or with cracked tail lights in the rear! You see, I only have one eye .) , and no depth perception as a result! So, I'm OK going forward, but I always manage to bang into some tree or something when backing up!
But I will keep catching things on them in mind - Thanks!
Hey - how about formatting a smiling face sporting only one eye for the forum!

What about tack welding some light weight expanded metal over the tail light guard. Then the only thing that should get cought in it will be pretty small and weak.
Thats What I would do, a cheaper fix than trying to repair a torn off guard! Or put a piece of plexiglass cut to match the deminsions of the guard on the outside of the guard and secure it somehow.)

The taillight guards will not help you. Instead of breaking just a tail light lense cover, you will end up punching the protective grill through the soft aluminum AND breaking a tail light lense cover. The tail light lense is cheap, it's repairing the aluminum that will get expensive. These things are for looks only!
Thanks,
Mike B.
