Looking at buying a set with 3" lift? Anybody like or dislike them? What shocks would pair well (Billsteins)? What else would I need with the 3" lift (buhings, brake lines, etc)? Also, is this a job I am going to be able to do myself?

Thanks in advance,
Marc

I run the 3" with Bilsteins on my 88 RR. They only complaint is that they sag after a while. I like the ride (Bearmach/Bilstein combo). I did not have to extend my brake lines. I run 265/75/16 BFG ATs and do not rub. If I had to do it all over again I would get the Rovertyme springs.

Just my opinion.

Good luck.

I run the 2" springs. I like the ride a lot. I run them with spacers - 2" rear, 1" front. They have not sagged a noticeable amount - maybe a half an inch, if that.

Spring install is a simple job. There is an article in the tech section that will walk you through it.

I really like the Bearmachs. In the end, though, they will not give you a 3" lift. As everyone has mentioned, they will sag. No big deal if you're counting on it. The 3-inchers actually give very good travel (assuming longer shocks, no sway bars, springs retained top and bottom). You may need to install spacers up front if you're planning on a winch/bumper and you'll probably need new brake lines in the rear, maybe even the front. You may or may not get driveline vibration (read: driveshafts need replacing, maybe even castor corrected arms). I had over 3" of lift on my Disco with never a sound-

I have the Bearmach HD springs with regular OME shocks. At first the springs appear stiff but after several months the ride will soften--too soft for some people. The OME shocks work well off road, but the bilstein might be a better compromise with the softer Bearmach spring. Off road, I have come to enjoy the Bearmach/OME combo but regret not having a stiffer suspension on the freeway or country highways.

Yes, the install is something you can and should do yourself.
