Ok, so I can't get the old sucker out of there. Are there any tricks of the trade? It doesnt have a handle and I just don't have enough upward force to remove it from its old home. Oh, and it's been a while since i took chemistry, baking soda to neutralize the acid, right?

Use a baking soda/water solution to neutralize the acid. Use it liberally. And after you pull out the old one, clean the area below it, too. To get the old one out, I couldn't lift it straight up, either. What I did was cross my arms and lift up. (left arm on right side of battery/ right arm on left side of battery) This allows you to use a greater "clamping force" to lift up.

You might be able to work a nylon strap (tie down strap, belt, etc.) under the battery and lift it up using the strap. I'd use two to make cradle to keep it from slipping out once I got it up.
Thanks,
Mike B.

And put on some eye goggles, overalls, gloves, etc. - I've heard some real bad stories of exploding or dropped batteries...
