Anyone tried this out yet? I just want to know if the noises my Disco II makes are normal. I hear a rapid tapping noise near the brake pedal, and then as I go down hill the car speeds up to about 7 mph, brakes a little, and then progrssively applies decreasing bursts of braking until it reaaches this speed again. Repeats continuously. The speed is definitely not constant. Is this all normal?

Oh come on - there must be someone out there who's tried HDC? My problem is that for really steep hills, where you might think its useful, it goes too fast!

are you in low range?

The sound is normal. It's the HDC modulating the brakes, similar to ABS.

I personally don't use HDC. It's application is very limited and besides I like to have as much control over the vehicle as possible.

I was told that the speed of HDC was configurable via testbook. I also thought (again, uncertain) that the speed runs around 5mph, probably stated in the manual....

I've used it once or twice, it seems only good when you have a long, straight run-out from a steep downhill. Otherwise, it's useless.

I've used it a few times, mostly on the long, straight hills David talked about. And I do recall it never got much above 5mph.

I guess it works OK (and yeah, all the noises are normal) but if you're going downhill over a rutted road or one with lots of rocks or holes, you'll probably want to avoid HDC and work the brake with your foot so as to avoid "compressing" and potentially banging and dinging things you don't want to bang and ding.

Dean, the speed is determined by which gear you are in (3,2,1). Sounds like you may have left it in 3. Try 1 next time, and you should see a reduced speed. Yes, the sounds are normal.

Greg,

The manual says that it can be in any gear, even Drive, and that it will maintain a speed of 3.5 mph. This is too fast for a 30 degree hill!

But you're right, I was in Drive. As far as I can tell, though, it put it in 1st anyway.

Dean
