WHAT, I can't hear you over your muffler!

I would go with a 70 series! No you don't have to use a resonator.

I just put on a 3-chamber 50 series (hacked off the resonator)and frankly it's much more quiet than I expected. It drones a little around 2K RPM and you can definitely hear it when wide open. Around town driving is normal.

This has been discussed in length. Check this out... http://www.discoweb.org/discus/messages/1774/1200.html?990224487

In that discussion is links to WAV files Danno posted of his 50 series setup. Sounds really sweet. It is on my to-do list.

Is the Borla system any bigger than the stock setup, or are you getting the same diam. pipe w/ a different muffler. If that's the deal then a weld in muffler of any hi-flow type will accomplish the same results. I have a mustang and am familiar w/ the aftermarket exhausts and what they can do. The other thing to be careful of is that when you do go w/ a bigger pipe you're low end suffers. This may not be a good thing on a disco. Just my $.02.

I installed the Borla cat back and if my memory serves me correct, it is the same diameter size ... all you basically do is remove the factory exhaust after the Y pipe and bolt it on. Extremely easy to install. As for my low end suffering ... actually improved performance. Only complaint I have is driving with a hangover at 2200 rpm .... I speed up ... I would rather risk a speeding ticket.

Murray, if your low end improved I would guess they're the same size and you got some gain from the better exhaust flow from the muffler. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Borla has less bends and probably straighter breathing which is conducive to more hp. I just think that if all you're getting is the same size pipe as the stock system then the addition of a hi-flow muffler will do about the same thing as replacing the whole thing. I do know the 2K drone as my mustang is VERY loud at 2K.

I agree - will be alot cheaper too and you will be less pissed when you rip it off rock crawling. Keep the tylenol in the glove compartment in the 'Stang for those rough mornings .... :)
