I currently live in a state that doesn't have a front license tag requirement, and my Disco has no mount for a front license tag.

In the next year or so, I'll be building a house across the state line, and will be moving into a state that does require a tag on the front.

I do have the factory brush-guard and airdam in place. I've been contemplating adding a pair of jate rings in the front, and then run a bridle chain between them... then when recovering, would just clip onto the chain, thus pulling on both instead of one.

But my question is, how is the front plate mounted? And will my idea about a bridle chain totally destroy the front tag? (Actually, I could care less, as I'm not fond of having to have a front tag, it just gets in the way... so if it's there and obviously taking punishment from being in the way because of a stupid regulation, so-be-it.)

On my '95 Disco (no brush bar) I just pop-riveted the front plate on to the plastic. Drill out an re-rivet to change.

'94 Disco with brush bar, got a plate mount bracket at a parts store. Don't recall exactly how I mounted it...have the '95 at work now.

I have one of these in my garage that I will sell for cheap if you are interested. Its a hunk of molded black plastic that bolts on to your bumper. Are you sure you don't already have one?

Alex, I had been thinkin' about doing it in a Series style method (ie, less than cheap, just figure out a way to screw the sucker on), but I may end up taking you up on the offer. I'm not in any hurry - we're just now looking at buying the land, and will not build for at least a year, so....

As far as what I have... I have the factory brushguard, and the airdam. There is nothing resembling a tag-holder in the front of my Rover under the centerline of the brushguard. No srew holes, etc.

There IS a big flat area, smooth, like Joshua's "plinth"... [neat word... it's rare that I have to look something up, so that's my 'word for the day'].

I hadn't thought about it, but I suppose it's possible that there could be some bits on the backside of the flat, and that I'd need to drill out a couple of holes. Hmmmm.... something to check, I reckon....

Leslie,

Actually, it mounts on to the bumper, not the brush guard. If you have a plastic "cover" on your bumper about 2-1/2 feet wide in the center, that's it.

Yes, that's what I have, but there's not any visible way to mount a tag to that "cover".

Jeff, a local Disco owner, just took one off of his, and it has mounting bits to put a tag on (need to eyeball his to see just what the difference is, so he's going to bring his by).

I wonder if I can get away with a tag on a roof-rack here. A buddy said he'd bet me a hundred bucks that they'd pull me over and tell me that it was mounted too high.... maybe, maybe not... I might have to look into what the law says... I do know that once I mount a winch, and lights, though, there won't be a place low to put it anyway... so.......
