Mike...I think that the best Disco depends on what you are doing...trekking, OFFROAD...or camping...I first started modifying the Disco for camping/overlanding...now going to extreme offroad...thinking how to take these doors, roof, and back door off!
:)
for the record...I'll take Tom's disco, +some other stuff...

Nadim, you make my cheeks have a rosey glow. I like your Disco as well. I wish I had the skill to do my own customizations...

Okay...this was a looonggg thread before. Read every post but never participated. I think I'd put my 2 centavos on this one. IMHO, I liked Ho's old Hozilla. It looks like a white XD. I don't see much of it anymore, last time I read about it was when Kyle was restoring it for his girlfriend/wife? Is the zilla still alive Kyle?

Tom...
I'll be back home in 3 weeks...so that is when ALL the goodies I bought here in the States will be coming on, and I have LOTS of new ideas (good or bad...we'll see)...so there will be lots to see...new bumper, RE10,000, new front suspension, rear bumper and skid plate, rock sliders...
I am preparing for a Lebanese competition...so 33s-35s is a must!
I hope it will all work out and that we can all benefit from my ideas...
Cheers

Nadim-

Sounds great. I am excited to see Rover mods being taken to the next level. I know some folks are partial to have some lift (1-2") and keep their truck "expedition style", but the future of my truck will be to equip it for more intense off-roading.

As more and more discos become available for under 10 grand they are finally good candidates to modify into hard-core trail rigs without having to be filthy rich to do it. I look at it a lot like stock car racing and the impact it has on everyday vehicles. Not everybody will take it to that level, but everybody can benefit from those that do and pick and choose the pieces that apply to them.

Exactly...plus, there is no reason why the Discovery cannot outshine the lesser competition, and ever the "ultimate" Defenders...
The great asset of the Discovery is that it has a 100" chassis...this length has proven to be the best all round wheelbase...
The two main problems that I am dealing with is the fitting of 33s+ tires, and getting some width in the Disco so as to compensate for it's somewhat tall stance...
I have gotten my hands on some 15x8 steel wheels with no offset, so that means that I can fit up to a 13.2" section width (theoretically)...but the problem is the fender's outer lip...I will have to see to that later...but I think that i will be ordering some sort of flairs from AUS. in order to fit the "DESIRED" 36 TSL SX...
we'll see...
BUT, I think the next step are some 33 TSL bias, just to see whether or not it is worth goingeven taller...

Excellent.

I think you can get those flares in the US, too, but I don't remember where from. It was a discussion topic before. When my 32" TSL's wear out, I think I am going to try some 33's as well. I would really appreciate having that trail blazed for me! :)

Food for thought is that my friend has 33x12.5's on his Jeep Grand Cherokee, which has a similar wheelbase. He can tackle some serious stuff that 35" equipped wranglers trip up on. If you are familiar with the custom made "Sniper" rock buggy, he was able to hang on a trail with that thing and only bypass a couple of the totally insane obsticles. I presume his driving ability also plays into that. We may not need to hit 35's to hang with some of the 35 crowd. I too have tackled obstacles that Wranglers with 35's couldn't do. Our wheelbase is great.

Tom...
The sniper is a good buggie...but what we have is the ulimate combination of luxury and offroad...therefore, that thing is worthless in our eyes...
The TSL 33x12.5x15 bias are 33.7" tall...some 35s are shorter than that...so that may be the key...I have just emailed 'trailcroft' of AUS. in order to see what the price of the flares would be, shipped either here or directly to Lebanon.
I will keep you notified...

Nadim ,

The ultimate rover is the one that does it all. Not just one thing really well. What good is a truck that just does one thing really well? What does that say for the rover? It should be able to handle every enviroment at any time. Once you have achieved that it doesnt really matter what its purpose is (That day) it will serve you well..

Kyle,

Very True...however...I am currently setting up my Disco without a roofrack, because that I feel causes a lot of problems to the Disco.
Therefore, I have been thinking of where to put the 4 jerrycans, high lift, pioneer tools, and spare tire...ALL OUTSIDE the vehicle...without the rack...
I think if I set up the Disco to be the best offroad it can be, then the given attributes of heavyduty parts, and streetability will still be there (I will be running ARBs with 2 sets of tires)
Anyhow, any input will be much appreciated!

Kyle,
I think if you're searching to build a truck that "does it all" you're fooling yourself. You can build one that can do most of everything but it will be a compromise in most areas. This means it will do very well everywhere but will not really be best at anything. Or ultimately you can set it up so that it is really good in what you wheel the most and not bad in the other styles of wheeling. If you want a vehicle that is best for off road, you will have to sacrafice a lot of on-road ability and comfort. Or build an off-roader and have a second vehicle as your daily driver. Same is true for different wheeling attributes of a vehicle. How do you think I know this? Take a guess. :)

LOL... "fooling yourself"

dude, he already owns a vehicle that can do it all.

simply,

the disco is the best all around. comfort on the road in the city and can hang with anything else on the trail. i dont make no difference if that trial is in the desert on the rocks in the mud or clay, it aint no thang but a chicken wing... ya dig?

dudes, disco's stock or not, kick ass. who else do you know that will take their 4x4 to a business meeting, and be PROUD of what they drive TO the meeting (i'm talking a REAL 4x4 capable of what our disco's will do) i can't think of anyone. so who cares who's got the "nicest" truck-as long as we're having fun.

The few...The Proud, The Disco's.

Milan , I call it the "Jack of all trades" and yes , its master of none,,,but it still gets them done... all of them. That says much more then being the best at one. If thats going to be the case which one do you pick? Do you go out and buy a trailer for this land rover that has a reputation for being such a bad ass? What have you said about your truck if you haul it around on a trailer when ever you have allot of highway to cover? The fact is , the highway is just part of the trail. To me , the miles between me and the trail head are just as much of a challenge as any trail I have run...Rocks are just as hard as deep water , mud is just as hard as nasty rock. I have been in them all and I couldnt ask for anything more from my truck. Why? Because it got me there and it got me home so taht I could commute to work in it as well...

Kyle
