I looked under the hood this morning to figure out where this annoying tick was coming from, there it was, a gigantic crack in the manifold.

I have 46000 miles on my Discovery 1 and I was surprised to see this. I think I still have some miles left on my warranty. However, if they took one look under the hood, they would know I have been up to no good. (Mud everywhere).

My Questions:

Are there any upgrades available for my disco's exhaust.

Is there anyway I can clean the engine compartment, and possible problems from steam cleaning the engine bay.

Also:

When ever I clean the end caps on my front bumper they get a white hazy on them, do you all recommend a cleaner for the plastic that doesn't leave residue.

Thanks!

If you want to upgrade, get a set of headers for your truck. RPI sells them as does D&D. Then go with some Flowmaster mufflers grafted into your current pipes. This will flow better than the Borla and not be so $$$$. Of course, its not stainless (who cares) . Leave on the cats and O2 sensors and it will all be legal too.

Try cleaning the engine compartment and get the dealer to fix that. My experience in similar situation (catalytic converters) is that the warranty listed off-road driving constituted abuse and was grounds for denial of claim. However, your local LR dealer would be a fool to tell you that you are not allowed under your warranty to take your Land Rover off-road. I am sure that LRNA would be pissed to hear that a dealer is telling customers that Land Rovers shouldn't go off-road. Just a thought.
The dealer gets paid on warranty work, so it is not like they don't want to do it. It may not be their first choice, as the rate may be lower and it may take more time to get paid, but they still get paid. Give it a shot.

My dealer replaced the right exhaust man on my '97 disco under warrenty a few months ago. I believe this is a common problem. Your dealer should take care of it for you.

Do NOT steam clean engine!!! Unless you want to pay $125+ to get that damn GEM electronics unit re-programmed. When water gets in (and it will) that little black box located against the passenger-side inner engine wall back near the windshield, you have a 4500 pound hunk of Rover that ain't goin nowhere without a tow. I've tried wrapping the box, electrical connections, plugs, etc. prior to hosing engine, but something always happens and the Disco stalls and will not restart.

Handwash, or adopt my maxim: a dirty Rover engine is a happy engine.

Change your exhaust headers either via the dealer or aftermarket. Then instead a piece mealing the rest of your exhaust buy cutting the old mufflers off and having to weld on new ones to the old pipe-which does not make sense. Let's see lets Upgrade our muffler but run the same old crappy pipes and resonator at the end? Go aftermaket with either a custom exhaust at a muffler shop or get something that has been designed for Rovers. Example being from NRP.

You missed what I said regarding the exhaust mods. I was talking about changing ALL the cans under the car, or, (gasp) not running a resonator at all. I know it may be hard for you to believe, but there is nothing wrong with the muffler pipe under the Disco. So unless you are running a high HP engine or have money to burn, there is no real need to change what ain't broke. NRP is a fine set-up but why spend the money if you don't need it? So many of you guys out there just throw money at a problem without thinking, or worst yet, thinking that LRs are somehow "differently" constructed than other vehicles. THATS WHY DEALERS CAN CHARGE YOU POOR SCRODS $95/HR IN SHOP TIME............

I think that D&D is DT Performance in Australia. Check out http://www.dtperformance.com.au/landy.htm
