Could you, guys, advise me towards one of those? Or probably towards something else? ;)
Which of them is more quiet on a highway?
Which would have better traction on loose sand?
I am not into real mud games. Just want a good all-around off-road tire for my Disco I with OME 2".
Also the Trac-Edge is available at 215/85-16 which seems to be better for snow. Wrangler is only at 245/75

Different tires for different use...
The trac edges are 50/50...the MTR is supposedly a 90/10 offroad tire...
I have tried the Trac Edges, they are great, get them in 235/85...best size...they are really good...
However...Interco tires rule for now...that is my honnest opinion.

I've run them both. TracEdge is the best all-around and will probably be a little better in snow. MT/Rs definately are the best off-road, though, and are tolerable (read: loud, but not annoyingly & ride as good as the TracEdges) on the highway. I'm not convinced about Intercos, but I agree totally with Nadim on the 235/85s. It'll require some slight trimming on the rear quarters, but you'll like the added clearance off-road.

I'd get the 245/75 MTR's if you don't want the taller tires. The difference between 235 and 245 widths is negligeable and the MTR is so good in snow, I would not even worry about it. Off-road, wider is generally better (especially in snow) but so is taller. Why not go for the 32x11.50R15? That way you get both the height and the width benefits.

I went with 215/85R16. I am partial to pizza cutters off road. I have the Dunlop Rover R/T's which are the equivilant to the Trac Edge. You should be able to get them for about $100 each.
That being said, right now www.tirerack.com has the 245/75R16 MT/R's for $142 each which is a good price for the tire.
Overall, I agree with the others that the Rover R/T and Trac Edge are great all around tires. The MT/R will be the better off road tire and is quickly gaining popularity over the BFG MT's.

235/85 is off the list. I like my stock rear diff too much. And my 19 MPG as well ;)

I ran the 215/85 Trac-Edges until I went with a 3" lift and 265/75s. They are great offroad, but wander a lot on road. My wife hated them, but it kept her from driving my Disco.

Yep. Synthetic Mobil 1 oil + K&N air filter. 19 MPG on a highway. Disco'97.

I also run Mobil1 and K&N but have never seen 19 mpg. I think I mostly get about 15 mpg on the hwy.

I don't know if those 32's will fit but I assume that if 245 fit with stock stock suspension and rims and hardly any trimming, then more trimming should allow 32's or 265's. All I know is then when I get new tires I may try these if the gears can handle it (the disco is lazy as is). If not either new gears or 245's for me.
I look at lift as something allowing better clearance and with extended bumpstops giving stock or better travel while allowing larger tires.
