I recently purchased some BFG M/T's in 255-85-16 size, can I invert he tire mount and have it rewelded so it fits the 33.6? This is the size stated on their website. I know inverting allows for 265-75 but just barely. Thansk Matt

You can buy a spacer from Rovertym that extends the mount so the tire clears the bumper. It will work, but who knows about the long term effects of the leverage the tire will put on the door.

Just make a steel plate that will offset the bolt holes. Bolt this plate to the existing holes and have three new holes up above the old holes. This seems straight forward to me. What seems hard is getting a 255/85 to fit a Disco. How are you doing that??

Tell me how you get a 255/85 on your Disco?? Lift, trim etc.

I own a D2, hopefully Rovertym's lift will accomodate the 33.6 inchers. It is the 3 inch lift which seems to give quite a bit more than that. Trimming, radius arms , brakelines. Greg Davis has pics of this lift that make his 265-75 look dinky. So in anticipation of RT's lift I purchased these. I couldn't pass 'em up at cost, I got them for 547 clams. So they better work! I know I can get them on the tire carrier but concerned about the weight, maybe some kind of support between the tire and bumper?

Herky,

A month or two back I posted "Can I fit 255-85s with a 3" Rover Tym lift?". I got a lot of NO from people that have a 3" lift. I would post that question again, and you might look up my post in the archive of tech talk. I am getting the 3" lift and have a friend with 255/85s on his lifted D90. I don't think they will fit on a disco without a ton of body work. I think I am going to 235/85s or 265/75s. Post it if it works.

Good luck

Mike do you own a D2? Or a D1? I was under the impression that the D2 had wider wheel arches? Oh well stuck with them now!!!!! I will definitely post pics.......

Herky,

I found my old post. It's in the archive under "Anyone know how large a tire will fit a RT 3" lift?" The archive runs A to Z so you can find it quick. Lots of good ideas about 255/85s.

On a D2, I heard that you can invert the tire carrier to carry a slightly larger tire (sorry for the lack of details, but I own a D1). You have to dismantle the door from the inside to remove the carrier and I can't recall how big of a tire that you can fit after flipping the tire carrier. I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Doesn't John at Rovertym run 285/75-16 on his D1?
