Are there any aftermarket distributor caps and rotors available for a '95 Disco that are as good or superior to the stock parts?

Just changed my old stock Lucas parts (black cap) after 50,000 miles for a "Brit Parts" cap and a no name rotor from Atlantic British. New cap doesn't fit as snug as the old one.

Thanks,

Norm

yes and no. Does it say lucas? If so then it might be ok (I used to say always but it has come to my attention that some lucas caps are not the same as the genuine ones).

Well, to answer my own question, I talked to somebody at Atlantic British where they sell the "genuine," the "Lucas," and the "aftermarket" distributor caps. According to this guy, Lucas stopped making the heavy, black caps that came on the vehicle originally which fit very snugly on the distributor. Now Lucas is making shiny blue caps (not as heavy as the original, and they fit rather loosely on the distributor). Apparently, these shiny blue Lucas caps are now standard "factory" parts sold at the LR dealerships. "Brit Parts" makes a black aftermarket cap that, aside from the color, appears to be identical to the blue Lucas cap and fits just as loosely.

This wouldn't make much difference except for the fact that I'm in the habit of driving through mud, water and extremely fine dust and I don't want the distributor to get clogged up with such material. As it is, with the original "snug" cap, a fair amount of dirt finds its way inside the distributor cap.

To complicate things, they're telling me that the "Lucas" rotors are better than the "factory" rotors sold at the dealerships.

I guess I could use some pliable silicone sealant around the outside edge of the "new and improved" blue cap to keep this crap from getting into the distributor.

Anybody else have this problem or know where I can get the original heavy, tight-fitting factory caps or a reasonable facsimile thereof?

Thanks,

Norm

I put a Beck-Arnley cap and rotor button on my truck a while back and haven't had any problems. Available at NAPA.

Beck-Arnley parts rock.. good brake pads, good price. Also, I think that there is a GM HEI distributor that you can fit too....
